New Mexico Invader Josh Hodges Scores BOSS Soudrette Memorial

Following a Friday night rainout at Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, Indiana, the Rick's Trucks & Equipment BOSS sprint car series rolled into Lawrenceburg Speedway in southeast Indiana for the second time this season.  A fine field of 40 traditional sprint cars were on hand to pay tribute to one of the very first BOSS drivers and a Lawrenceburg Speedway regular, Jason Soudrette, who we lost from complications over a battle with leukemia.

The field of 40 cars was split into 5 tough heat races that found Landon Simon, Josh Hodges, Jarrett Andretti, C.J. Leary and Shawn Westerfeld picking up the wins.  A scary moment occurred in heat race number one when Toby Alfrey got upside down and collected Lee Underwood.  Both drivers were okay.   Twin B-main events were won by Todd Keen and Dickie Gaines driving the John Soudrette owned #44 car raced in memory of Jason Soudrette.

The 25 lap main event was paced to starter Tim Montgomery's green flag by C.J. Leary and Joss Moffat with Garrett Abrams and Josh Hodges in row 2.  The initial start saw Leary, in the Amati 66, get crossed up and spin to a stop in turn 2.  A fuel leak in the cockpit was spraying fuel and eliminated the pole sitter before a lap was scored.

The second start attempt saw Joss Moffatt rocket to the lead from the outside pole to lead the first 8 circuits.  New Mexico invader Josh Hodges was immediately into the runner-up spot dogging Moffatt for the top spot.  The race stayed clean and green throughout the early stages with Hodges able to make the race winning pass on lap 9.  Meanwhile, in the pack, 7th starting Jarrett Andretti was on the move along with 22nd and 23rd starters Dickie Gaines and Cooper Clouse.

The race's first official caution flew on lap 16 when BOSS regular Steve Little rolled to a stop on the backstretch.  Hodges again pulled out to a handy lead, but another caution would slow the field when Landon Simon rolled to a stop in turn 4 ending a fine run with a broken rear end.

One final race stoppage would occur when Jarrett Andretti brought out the race's only red flag.  With the laps winding down, Andretti was the fastest car on the track on lap 21, but working lap 22, Andretti slid across the track in turn 4, caught the cushion and the car pushed, putting Andretti into the turn 4 wall and executing a vicious end of end style flip down the front stretch.  Thankfully, Andretti walked away uninjured.

Over the final 4 circuits, nobody had anything for Hodges who cruised to victory winning in his first ever appearance with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series.  Joss Moffat, Logan Jarrett, Shawn Westerfeld and Cooper Clouse rounded out the top 5.  Clouse earned "hard charger" honors for his 23rd to 5th run.   Rounding out the top 10 were Kody Swanson, Dickie Gaines, Garrett Abrams, Travis Hery, and Dustin Smith.

The Rick's Truck & Equipment BOSS sprints now get a much needed weekend off before heading to Wayne County Speedway on Saturday, August 13th.  The spring event at WCS fell victim to Mother Nature.
