USAC Western States Midget Series

RONNIE GARDNER IS KING AT HANFORD

JUNE 29, 2016… Leading all 30-laps, Ronnie Gardner (Corona, California) held off Michael Faccinto to claim last Saturday’s USAC Western States Midget victory at Hanford. For Gardner, the $1,000 win at the Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds marked his fourth triumph of the campaign. Fast qualifier Faccinto, Cody Swanson, Hard Charger Courtney Crone, and Frankie Guerrini followed Ronnie to the checkered flags.

Piloting the Six8 Motorsports’ #68 Baldozier Racing / Esslinger Engineering Stewart, Ronnie Gardner qualified third out of a modest fourteen racers and won the Extreme Mufflers Heat Race #1. The three-time champion and current point leader left Hanford with two Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, five heat race victories, five top-10 finishes, and 82 feature laps led to his credit.

Starting third, Michael Faccinto (Hanford, California) pressured Gardner throughout the main event before finishing second at Hanford. Racing the MF Motorsports’ owned #35F OZV / Lucas Oil Spike, Faccinto earned his second Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award and ran second to Gardner in his heat race. Currently ranked second in the point chase, Michael has posted one feature win, one heat race victory, five top-10 finishes, and 57 feature laps led on the year.

Cody Swanson (Covina, California) scored third at the Kings County Fairgrounds after restarting at the back. Driving the family owned #71S Marcie Campbell Realtor / Advanced Racing Suspension Spike, Swanson was second fast in time trials and ran second to Cory Elliott in his heat race. Cody heads to Petaluma ranked fifth in the point chase with three top-10 finishes in the campaign.

For the second race in a row, Courtney Crone (Corona, California) earned the night’s Keizer Aluminum Wheels / Rod End Supply “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors. Piloting Jerome Rodela’s #25 Trench Shoring / Ed Pink Racing Engines Breka, Crone qualified tenth overall, ran fifth in her heat race, and charged from tenth to score fourth in the main event. The leading rookie contender is ninth in points with two top-10 finishes on the season.

Frankie Guerrini (San Rafael, California) scored fifth in the Hanford 30-lap main event. Racing the family owned #63 F&F Racing / Davis Motorsports Spike, Guerrini was fourth quick in time trials and ran third in his heat race. Currently, the defending BCRA Champion sits third in the standings with one Competition Suspension Inc. / Rod End Supply Semi-Main win and five top-10 finishes.

Cory Elliott (Bakersfield, California) raced to victory in the 10-lap DJ Safety Heat Race #2. Driving the family owned #11E FK Indy / Oilwize Spike, Elliott qualified sixth overall and scored tenth in the main event. Last season’s Rookie of the Year is currently sixth in the point chase with two heat race victories and three top-10 finishes in the campaign.

The USAC Western States Midgets will take a break before returning to action on Saturday, July 16th, at Rick Faeth’s Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, California. Located on the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, the “Jack London Hall of Fame Race” is co-sanctioned with the BCRA Midgets and will also feature the BCRA Midget Lites and Vintage Midgets.
