Shepard Records Record Setting Fourth NCRA Late Model Victory!
Hays, Kansas – June 5, 2016 - In a feat that hasn’t been accomplished in the 33-year history of the tour, current point leader Lyle Shepard picked up his fourth straight National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products late model feature victory Sunday night at RPM Speedway in Hay, Kansas.
Justin Bussell and Delbert Smith started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature with Smith taking the lead as the green flag fell. Smith set a torrid pace for the first half of the event before third starting Chris Kratzer and Shepard began to close the distance with Shepard taking the runner-up position with ten laps to go.
Just six circuits remained before the Manhattan, Kansas driver passed Smith for the lead and would go on to claim his fourth straight victory to start the season, a feat not even former five-time series champion Kelly Boen was able to accomplish during his career with the tour.
Smith would hold on for second while defending co-series champion Kratzer coming home third. Bussell settled for fourth while Segraves rounded out the top five.
The two, eight lap heat races for the twelve car field were won by Bussell and Smith.
The next event for the NCRA crate late model tour will be held on Saturday night, June 18, at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas for their second appearance of the season.
