Bruce NCRA/NSL Sprint Winner at 81 Speedway!

Park City, Kansas – May 28, 2016 - Tony Bruce, Jr. took the lead with four laps remaining to win his first National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products/gomuddy.com NSL sprint car feature of the season Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.

Series point leader Don Droud, Jr. and five time and defending tour champion C.J. Johnson started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature with Johnson driving hard into turns one and two to take the lead. Droud would return the favor on lap later driving around Johnson exiting turn two to lead lap two, only to see Johnson retake the top spot entering turns three and four.

Johnson would quickly built up a half stretch lead before the first caution of the feature fell on lap four when Chris Morgan spun in turns one and two.

The top five on the restart were Johnson, Droud, J.D. Johnson, Ryan Roberts and Bruce as Johnson set sail from the rest of the field. After building up a full straight away lead at the races midway point, slower traffic came in to play allowing Droud to cut his deficit to ten car lengths.

Behind them Bruce, aboard the Danny King owned #88, began reeling in the front runners and on lap fifteen passed Roberts for the third spot.

Three laps later disaster would strike for Droud as Roberts hooked a rut at the bottom of turn two, got sideways and collected Droud causing him to flip the Ochs Brothers #1x. Droud was uninjured

On the restart, Johnson would jump out into the lead with Bruce, J.D. Johnson, Danny Jennings and Jordan Mallett the top five running order. Mallett, who started twelfth, got a good run on the restart and took over the third position on lap nineteen.

Heading down the backstretch on lap twenty-one, Bruce got a run exiting turn two and would use the top side to pull even with Johnson entering turns three and four and would take the lead. One lap later the final caution flag would wave when Forrest Southerland came to a stop at the top of turn two.

The final restart was no problem for Bruce as he would go on to claim the half stretch victory over Johnson. “It feels great to be back in victory lane but it feels even better to go to victory lane with the King family,” quoted Bruce later. Mallett, the current gomuddy.com NSL point leader coming into the night, made the all-night trip up from Hattisburg, Mississippi and profitable one as he claimed third, followed by J.D. Johnson and eleventh starting Jeremy Campbell.

The four, eight lap heat races for the twenty-eight car field were won by Droud, Roberts, J.D. Johnson and Tyler Dreuke with Morgan taking the twelve lap “B” feature honors.

Next up for the NCRA/NSL 360-ci sprinters will be a Father’s Day weekend double-header, kicking off on Friday night, June 17, at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kansas before a return trip to 81 Speedway on Saturday night (June 18).
