Ameri-Flex Challenge Update

Tulsa Okla. (May 12, 2016) - The teams of the Ameri-Flex / OCRS series went back to work after a short break last week where Sheldon Barksdale captured the Harold Leep Jr Memorial. It was Barksdale's second win of the year. The win put the team back into the top 12 in the Ameri-Flex Challenge standings (11th) after looking in on the outside after the Tri-State Speedway event.

The battle to be in a top 12 'lock-in' position is taking shape as to who attends and who doesn't as well as on-track performance. Last report, it was Rick Barksdale and car owner Travis Jenkins (with 2 cars) that fell out of the top 12 when the teams missed the Tri-State Speedway event. Prior to that, there were five teams that fell out of the top 12 when they missed the Outlaw Motor Speedway race.

This time its Casey Wills tumbling out of the top 12 but unlike those mentioned before him, Wills was all the way up to 6th in the last AFC standings that were released. This shows there is a fine line from making the lock-in spots or not making it regardless of how high a team is in points. As a couple of the on-track moves, Johnny Kent moved his team from 7th to 4th and Matt Sherrell, in only his second stint in the Paul Johnson car, moved the team from 12th to 8th with a strong 3rd place run last Saturday.

Next up for the teams is the Salina Highbanks Speedway this Saturday night followed by a trip to the Longdale Speedway the following week. The month of May will climax with the annual Memorial Day weekend event at the Caney Valley Speedway in Caney Kansas. These next three weeks could possibly see the shaping of the Ameri-Flex Challenge participants for the September 3rd event. Then again, we could see a cluster for those lock in positions. Stay tuned.

The current top 12 car owners and their drivers in Ameri-Flex Challenge points are:

1) Whit Gastineau (Self)
2) David Chappell (Zach Chappell)
3) David Moss (Robert Sellers)
4) Johnny W. Kent (Johnny 'Hotrod' Kent)
5) Brian Gramm (Self)
6) Andy Sewell (Alex Sewell)
7) Tom Pickard (Perry Pickard)
8) Paul Johnson (Brent Swift / Matt Sherrell)
9) Sean McClelland (Self)
10) Cameron Hagin Racing (Cameron Hagin)
11) Richard Barksdale (Sheldon Barksdale)
12) Bob Bookout (Michael Bookout)

What’s the Ameri-Flex Challenge?
The Ameri-Flex Challenge will start 14 cars for a 15-lap shootout with $5000 going to the victor. Additional cash and prizes will be paid out to the remaining 13 starters as well. This special event will be held at the Caney Valley Speedway in Caney Kansas on September 3, 2016. The field will have 12 positions locked in by a point system for ‘car owners’ with Ameri-Flex Hose & Accessories having 2 selections that will make for a 14-car field.
