TULSA, Okla. (May 7, 2016) - The Sooner Late Model Series visits Brill’s Motor Speedway in Meeker, Oklahoma on Saturday for race number three on the 2016 schedule and excitement could not be higher among fans and competitors.
After 23 competitors were on hand for the season opener on April 15, 25 signed-in for last weeks event at Oklahoma Sports Park.
Late Model drivers have been wanting for a series to grow late model racing in Oklahoma and they like what they see so far.
“I am very impressed with the car count this series has been able to pull,” Eddie Martin said following his third place finish last week. “That is a real positive good start. I think it going to be a great deal.”
Prior to the first race driver Jay Sale had similar comments.
“I am real excited about the new series,” said Sale, a veteran modified and late model racer. “I plan on running all the shows but one. I have scheduling conflict but I plan on being at all the rest of them.
“It should be exciting. It is kind of a working mans series. I think it has a lot of promise to offer. A lot of people want to run late models but they are expensive. This will give them an avenue to get out of a sport mod or modified and jump into a late model.”
More drivers are expected Saturday when the series moves to the Meeker oval. Opening night winner Kip Hughes and and Nate Jantz are tied atop the series point standings with 290 points. Hughes was credited with a 15th place finish at Oklahoma Sports Park after pulling out with motor issues. Jantz was more consistent with a second place finish last week after finishing 10th in the season opener coupled with two heat victories to climb in the standings.
Shannon Scott is only 10 points behind in third with sixth and fourth place finishes in the first two shows. Martin in fourth in points just 20 points behind Scott at 260 and Mark Harrison rounds out the top five with 255.
Brill’s Motor Speedway is located on state highway 18 just outside of Meeker.
From the Turner Turnpike (I-44), exit at the Chandler exit and follow highway 18. Track is about 10 miles south of the US 66 highway 18 junction. From I-40 take exit 186 in Shawnee and go north 16 miles on highway 18.
