My dad was a pit steward at Sooner Speedway just north of Sallisaw, Ok. on 59 hwy. He also had a race track in Roland Ok. called Sequoyah County speedway and was a flagman at Razorback speedway in Ft. Smith Ark. I am an artist and have a packet of pen-ink drawings of cars from Razorback, Thunderbird(Muskogee), Tulsa. I am looking for ANY photos from those tracks as well as Crawford County in Van Buren where I was born and grew up. The mid 60s early 70s had some GREAT racing at those tracks. I will send anyone my drawings for the asking. Also would love to find the track photogs who took the photos from those tracks or anyone who knows about all the drivers who raced there,i.e. where are they now? I know many are deceased but would love to hear from anyone with info. God Bless! Larry Freeman-309 Audubon Lane, Royse City, Tx. 75189

My dad drove at Sooner Speedway, Sequoyah Speedway, Tri-State Speedway, Thunderbird Speedway, and Crawford County Speedway. I was part of the pit crew the day after I was born with my pit suit and everything. My oldest sister was a trophy girl. My whole family lived racing.............I'm waiting on pictures to be mail to me. My dad Bob Shumate, built and drove his own cars. He was #44 in the beginning(very early 1960's) and then changed to #41 and never changed it again. The cars that I can remember were always purple until the last couple and they were black and yellow. Dad had a couple of drivers that drove for him (night blindness) even my little brother. We joked that I would have been the better driver. Lol... Dad drove against great drivers like Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace and the late Larry Phillips.
My dad has LUNG CANCER stage 3G. My brother, sisters and I are trying to make his final days the best. His favorite is Mark Martin. Last year my husband and I went to the Auto Club Speedway and bought him a t-shirt and hat. He won't wear the hat unless it is a special occasion. Most of my family will be in Oregon the last 2 weeks of June and we would LOVE to take him to the Sonoma Speedway. The tickets are not a problem. It military day.....purchase one ticket and get another free. My husband is active duty Marine and has been in for more than 20 years. I got out of the Marine Corp in 1991. Our problem is the 12 hour drive from Portland, OR to Sonoma, CA. My dad lives in Sallisaw, OK so it doesn't have to be this race. We are only in Oregon at my oldest sisters home for 2 weeks. Then my dad and mother return to Oklahoma. I know that tis is a shot in the dark, but it doest't hurt to try. If anyone has any ideas or help please email me @ [email protected]. If anyone knows my dad and would like to stop by and say hi, he lives in the same place but the post office gave them a new address 467540 E 1092 RD, Sallisaw, OK 74955 or give him a call 918-775-3961.

James and Abner Eubanks told me that there was a race track somewher around the Glenpool Okmulgee area that ran in the late 50's to the 60's. I never could find where this track was. Would you ask your father if he knows anything about it?
Thanks

I have heard there was another one father south than Glennpool and yes closer to Okmulgee. It was mentioned I believe in this forum one time. It was just a cow pasture track.
