Banditos in Tulare for the Chris and Brian Faria Memorial
by Peter “the Pretty Good”

This Saturday night will see the Bandit Series return to form at the Tulare Thunderbowl in a great program in conjunction with the Golden State Challenge and the Western States Modifieds. The Chris & Brian Faria memorial boasts an additional $500 to the purse. Promoters Steve Faria and Don Sharp have announced the payoff for the top 3 spots will be $1,250 to win, $900 for 2nd and $750 for 3rd. in this already special event.

Leading the charge will be one of the longest running Bandits and the winner of the latest Thunderbowl event, Danny “Showtime” Sheridan in his blue Kittle Motorsports number 18. Sheridan is a renowned contender for the USAC-CRA championship and claims a previous Bandit championship (1998) on his vast resume of accomplishments. The Kittle team has championships of its own to claim so this is a powerful combination.

Up to the challenge is the mighty Tarleton team led by Peter Murphy who claimed ever championship there was to claim in the central California wingless world. Well chronicled, the black 21 won the Bandit Championship, the Grand Slam Challenge Championship as well as track titles at both Santa Maria Speedway and Kings Speedway. Murphy, already a feature winner this season is hungry for the big pay check at the end of the evening. Tarleton teammate Michael Faccinto is also eager to get on the win list. A feature winner the past two seasons, the young lion is ready to make his mark in the sprint car scene.

Arguably the hottest team the Iturriria-Pombo team who have multiple wins in recent weeks. Davey is multiple time Bandit Champion with a thoroughbred pedigree. Nobody works harder and will rise to meet any challenge presented. This team has had the Thunderbowl series on its schedule since it was announced several months ago is certainly a favorite to claim the big trophy.

Series winners Jace and Richard VanderWeerd will definitely be taken seriously as they had their first taste of the Thunderbowl a month ago and were contenders from the very beginning. They are both looking to add another win to their growing tally in 2009 and will be seen in racing with USAC this season.

Wes Gutierrez is another young star to claim an ’09 win and will be on hand to race the Thunderbowl after announcing a hefty and ambitious schedule that will see the fine young pilot compete in just about everything in the open-wheeled world.

Now we cannot forget crowd favorite “Hollywood” Danny Faria. He will be there in his 17V machine. After a disappointing run a month ago, Faria is an even bet to make it to victory lane. Never needing any extra motivation other than winning every event he runs in, Danny really wants to win the race dedicated to the memory and spirit of family. Enough said!

Open wheeled superstar and famous mentor Cory Kruseman is said to be at the event with his team of rising stars including the Kingsberg Kowboy, Austin Mero. “Fast” Albert Pombo, T.J. Smith, Tyler Schmidt and a stable full of young stars of our sport will be there in force to challenge all of the veterans like Rusty Carlile and Davey Knott.

As Gary Thomas has noted, the Thunderbowlians wanted to give everyone a heads up that due to having three classes on Saturday the event at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway will be starting about 30 minutes to an hour earlier than usual, in an attempt to beat curfew and get everyone on their way home at a decent hour.

The plan is to try and start everything about an hour earlier than usual. The drivers meeting is expected to start at 4- 4:30pm, with wheel packing and qualifying to follow after that. The first race is scheduled to go off at about 6:30.

The pits will be open all day with pit passes being sold at 2pm. The pits will then be flushed at 3pm and then people with pit passes purchased will be allowed in.

We will see you there at this event that will be impossible to beat!

This will be a special event for me as it will be my last race in my position with the Bandit Series. Dave Swindell and Dave Sneed will be at all of the events in this change that is certainly going to benefit the Bandit Series as it moves forward. Dave Swindell is the creator of the series and has assumed the helm. I am thankful for the past 6 years of working with the fine folks that make-up this series. It will be my pleasure to thank as many folks as possible at the Thunderbowl event for everything over that time. I will be looking to broaden my racing horizons in the near future and seeing everyone down the road.

Dave Swindler is running the Bandits?? Does that mean there will be no championship prise fund? I bet he doesn't make it to the end of the season. Just going on the Swindlers past. Good Luck to the Bandits.

It appears that they (Tulare) doesn't post their results and that the Bandit series has no interest in promoting their series, now that Pete Curto has left. Where are the results???

where do you get your info Curto?

It clearly states on his website that Cory Kruseman is running Hanford on the 16th. It has stated this for a long time. I think that you are making this crap up as you go along.

Where is the bandits home track? and does swindell have anything to do with trying to grind the rest of the series into the dust along with his and your reputations?

Edit - Thats a weird thing to say. swindler has earned and kept true to his reputation for years now... so basically now its just you Curto, dragging yourself and everyone you try to associate with this shyster you hang out with.

Mr. Buckley,Pete can be a nice guy when he wants to,just keep him away from Sprint Cars and officiating in general, the only way he can function is with puppet strings attached.

Mr. Buckley. Pete is a jerk. He sealed the coffin with all the Bullsh!t he spewed on the message boards. He has been OK lately, but that's because he hasn't been on in awhile. Pete gets no respect as long as he is still the swindlers butt boy. Take that and stick it in yer pipe. I've said it before. The best thing for these Bandits, is for Pete to shut the heck up. The swindler is just that, a swindler and needs to get whats coming to him. Jail time.

Gee whiz- let me say, I have been treated very well by most everyone in the sport and took the time to thank everyone at the races. I didn't quit or break up with Swindell. It is time to do some other things right now with the family and my personal life, I am sure most of you all can understand that. The traveling at this time is the biggest hardship and a reality.

Let me say thanks to everyone, especially Dave Swindell and Larry Ulam who both hired me. We worked through some interesting times.

I want to thank the race track promoters whom I have worked with, notably Jim Naylor and Cliff Morgan at Venturaland. But each and everyone has given me something to carry with me, from the kindnesses to the challenges, the many, many track officials I have worked with has been the same. But again, my biggest blessing or benefit has been from the race teams- that is the owners, the drivers and the pit crew memebers. All I can say is wow, thank you all!

I am not nor have ever been an appologist for D.S. because he can defend himself, but I will say nobody runs a better race show anywhere and I have learned from the best how to run a show. D.S. is about as experienced in the racing game as anyone in the nation. I can take that education where ever I go, when ever that may be. We all have our own ideas and opinions of what we would do differently if we were king of the racing universe, that is fine and I am one of 'em. But Dave is by all accounts his own man! He loves this sport as much as anybody I have ever met and frankly is as unabashidly certain about his direction as any person I have ever met. I have appreciated that. There are a few characters in the promoters world that belong in the Hall of Fame as a world class director/producer of racing programs, and D.S. is my nominee (Jim Naylor is upthere as a close second and every bit as festidious about his program).

I have learned a great deal and have grown a tremendous amount with the challenges, the dealing with the sometimes unpleasant realities and so on over the past 6ish years. The reality is we are not going to please eveybody 100% of the time, but that is just dandy because I have learned from those opportunities too- the definition of 'sperience!

I have also benefitted personally from all of the great friendships that have been made, been blessed for the forgiveness of my mistakes and shortcomings and the heartened by appreciation for my efforts. From the kind words to the heartfelt critiques I have appreciated it all from the too many to list.

I still love racing, the sport and mostly of all the characters and individuals that make up this sport. Again thank you to everyone. Feel free to say hello or give me a one finger salute, it is OK to have an opinion- it's America Baby! My heart is full!

Hey Pete.

I might be one of your current detractors but I admire your attitude and perseverance your dedication to at least attempting to grow the sport and promote fun and family. Your ability to turn a negative into a positive learning experience for yourself is a great asset. I fully support and understand your decision to concentrate your time on personal matters, best of luck with whatever you decide to do and I hope you find some time to enjoy the races when you can.

However... this quote I cant leave alone.

Pete Curto said...

Are you frigging kidding me? Swindler has tried to run at least two race tracks out of business and was very nearly successful with at least one of those venues. Naylor is still at the same race track he started at with a growing racer base and a solid program. I dont see how you can compare the two honestly.

Kenny, The Bandits are in great hands. The Bandit Series shows have been and will continue to be the best run, best participated sprint car shows in the western US. Dave Swindell runs a great program and created this series that is 15 years strong.

The other series does not have any leadership, heart or soul right now. Why is that? It is devoid of that because they were created from bad intentions to be honest. That is a fact as it stands right now, like it or not. It has not been successful at growing the sport but running people off. But there are two things, one it can get a heat and soul and the other is it is simply running races and like the flavor or not, it is what is being served and some racers will race no mater what. Some will insist on a decent track with a well run program.

Dave Sneed is a very good man and friend who has done very well with Golden State, Western Late-Models and IMCA Modifieds and has been a great help for me with the Bandit sprint cars since I started this deal. Axe the dudes he has worked with, they'll tell you positive things about Dave Sneed. He is very conciencious. Sneed will be awesome with the Bandits!

The Bandits are in great hands!

Really?

I mean, really?

VRA, VRA Seniors, CRA. All average more cars than the bandits. Victorville too... Wait, isnt Arizona in the west too?

Pete. You are too funny. You can't possibly keep a straight face and say the Swindler is in the same league as Mr. Naylor.

John Padjen and others are way better promoters too.

Give me a friggin break. He is slime to racers. What he did to Handford and SMS is a crime. There will be no respect for a thief. You can spin it any way you like, but he is a thief.

I respect the fact that you are sticking by your friend like this. But that is what true friends do.

How much of the racers point fund did you receive??

Good luck to you, Pete. You will need it.

Peace,

Kenny

LMAO Kenny, what DS did for SMS was infact bring it back from closing and keep it alive. That is admitted by all accounts including his detractors. I know that to be true because I have been very involved with SMS for many years. I witnessed it's heyday, its decline and its reserection... we'll see where it goes from here. (No matter who runs it I hope it succeeds)

What went on at Hanford was the product of Fairbord vs Promoter with both sides un happy with the other- but two differnt factions have been in Hanford since with poor at best results... he made it work for more than a decade...more than anyone before or since...so I gotsta argue scoreboard my friend! Look at any promoter who works with fairboards and they will say it is difficult at best. Simply fact Kenny old friend...besides- I have been going to Kings since it's inception and the best races were always during the DS era. You cannot dispute that can you? From dust to bugs shutting down the races...DS ran a clean and orderly show with great car count. Going there with race cars we were always treated very well! That is well before I started with the Bandito deal...

So I do know that that makes me look like a puppet to some, but there are some facts in support of what I am saying. You cannot with any kind of honesty revise history can you? Would you acknowledge that or are you just gonna spew without fact or right behind you, just on unthinking emotion! Get real or simply shut yer mouth!

Good night all, couldn't resist, was just too easy to lay a little truth on the haters! My goin' away present!
