WHO WILL BE THE ‘KING OF THE HILLS’?????
COWTOWN SPEEDWAY, FORT WORTH TEXAS FEB. 13 AND 14 2009
Fri. Qualifier Minimum $1000 to win $100 to start.
Sat. Championship Minimum $3000 to win $200 to start
SPONSORED BY CITY VENDING FORT WORTH TEXAS
I’ll bet I am not the only one who played King of the Hill when I was a kid. Sometimes it got rough getting the other guys to back down. This is much the same for defending SMRS Champion Jonathan Beason as he will start the defense of his 08 Title. The high banks of Cowtown Speedway in Ft. Worth are not for the faint of heart. This track is one of the finest facilities in the country. It is wide and smooth with the groove said to be anywhere from the infield tires to the wall. The SMRS visited Cowtown once before and had one of our most exciting races ever. Beason will have his work cut out for him as he will take on some of the fastest cars and finest drivers in the nation. Several Texas cars are expected to try their luck on the high banks with past Champion Aaron Kirk, Kevin Ramey, Evan Pardo and others expected to compete. Will Pierce will bring the 10 car from Mo. to the scene. Will was a dash car several weeks in a row and led on one occasion before suffering an electrical failure. He will be hard to handle this year. Joe Boyles is expected to start a new run for the Championship after an off year last year. Joe is the only three time Champ of the SMRS. I will have a more complete list of Drivers that are coming after the Chili Bowl. Many Cars and Drivers are expected to try and lay claim to the title of ‘KING OF THE HILLS’. That’s it for now from Sallisaw Ok. USA

I hope its run better down there than it was at Creek County when they were on with the Tour N Topless series. It was painful sitting there watching such disorganization, and we would have left, but my longtime Knoxville/Chili Bowl room mates and their kids wanted to meet Daron Clayton. We were just lucky that Daron was amongst the very few drivers still there after sitting thru that marathon race.

yeah we left before it was over. and from the time we left the seats till we got in the car and left - we heard 3 more slowdowns (yellows) and then read there was about 5 more after that as well.
it would not have been so bad had they not run the race last. they ran it last and had no one there to do anything. but man that was an AWESOME night of racing. with an authentic feel to it and everything - considering the mud pit it got turned in to. i thought after the rain the track would suck - be too heavy - somehow - yeah it was one of the heaviest i ever saw - but the racing turned out AWESOME. and whereas the ruined shoes and mud sucked - there was a single particle of dust int he eyes or lungs lol....
i loved it. just a sad ending to an otherwise perfect night.... i still feel for SMRS - they got left high and dry by everyone else....

I guess it is normal for everyone to remember the tough nights. We have had several nights where there wasn't a single flag all night except for the green and checker.. It was just a tough feature and no one can deny that. I have been told that it was a great race after the 8th lap without a caution and you know it was. It was just an off night and everyone has them.

OKCFan12 , Was'nt that the night the whole grandstands got marinated for about and hour by the smoker which fries up the burgers at the place?, I thought it was? , I remember that Darren Clayton put on one of the best drives that I seen last year that night. Sure miss that wingless racing.

The racing was fine,it was the officiating that sucked. Sure a few cars spun out,but no officials were around to tell drivers where to line up. Thought we were gonna be in for a fuel stop or two before the race was over.
If you have another race on a "BIG" night as the TNT tour was for Creek County, then make sure to tell the drivers that a large crowd is on hand, and this would be a good time to showcase our sanctioning body with good racing.
Also would help if there are enough officials to ensure the program runs smoothly. The idea is to get fans in the stands, not alienate them.

aw hey man i aint tryin to be negative. sorry i did neglect to mention..........dude i think ya'll are a great series. there are not many midget series run down this way. which is ironic considering the CB is in this state. but hey the few times i saw a SMRS race - i thoroughly enjoyed it. very much.
i wasnt so much personally disappointed myself as i was for SMRS at the CCS TNT show. the rest of the classes that ran before ya'll set an awfully high bar on the quality. still the best OUTDOOR race in the entire state all season i think. and then it got to the smrs feature and it was dud. i dont even blame smrs. just for the integrity of the show - all those who were assisting on track during the previous 2 features - or at least some of em - could have stayed just a lil while longer and helped.
it was bad luck for smrs i think. ya'll are usually not in that situation i imagine. and i would bet smrs was undermanned because it was a weeknight. add that with just a weird race of many wrecks and spins. just bad timing. the only thing i took away from watching the majority of it ------ was i really hope the open wheel fans of oklahoma get treated to the same show in 2009. it was so awesome having the smrs midgets added on top of the micros and bandits. i mean it was a non wing EXTRAVAGANZA. near 30 or more in all 3 non wing classes. hell i kept joking - really hoping - that they could add non wing 360's to it too (ocrs) - make it 4 classes of non wing!!! there is not a race in oklahoma that could pray to compete with that.
and by the way - the racing in your series is really good. its so cool ya'll are going to run cowtown. that should just be a wail of a race! i dont think most are judging smrs by that one night. hell the racing when it was going was great. the heats were great too. and if all 3 classes can keep runnin that race every year - i always hope that the far and wide travelers might bring a midget or 2. but in order for that to happen i think that midgets would need to be added to at least one other night of the TNT. thats something really neat to think about. if ya'll could somehow get SFS to add midgets to their tnt race - that might influence a few of them travelers to bring a midget or 2 with em. or maybe add them to a night at lakeside or something. i dont know - just a thought.
I just hope for a state that features the best open wheel race in the world - that someday there are more midgets in the state and region...

yes in the painful offseason i still reminiss of that Magical Night of Marination in Kellyville, Oklahoma LMAO. i think the marination had an extraordinary effect on that lady to our immediate right. i still dont know if she thought she was the flagman lining the cars up - or if she thought she was signaling an airplane on a runway! LMAO. either way - i guess when you pay your admission - its your own free right to get Marinated and signal whoever you want lol lol.
hey man less than 4 weeks to the Tulsa Shootout. and less than 6 till the Bowl. :::::::::::::::::sighs:::::::::::::::: just cant get here soon enough. but i do foresee multiple Lonnie Wheatley press releases hittin the net in the very immediate future I've got the lotion ready ....... to get all lathered up for them car counts o yeah! (O thats just wrong)...
hey the next few races many of us will see will be wingless. the finale of the shootout. 5 days of chili bowl. and then most likely Cowtown - smrs style! - we should savor it - it may be the last we see of it until August with all the other stuff that will be goin on henceforth from march.
and yes btw. marination usually causes a blurred memory LOL. yes it was caused by that smoker - that smelled so.........inviting. it just reached out and grabbed ya by the gonads and said "come get a burger". thats true advertisement! or it could have been a different smoker altogether - if ya catch my drift LOL. that would explain the weird hand movements of the lady to our immediate right. i do think i recollect everyone getting a voracious appettite for a burger all at the same time (the line was indeed long). yes Clayton put on a clinic. and why not? - i think he smelled the same thing we did - maybe he wanted a burger too....
lol i'm probably laughing harder at all of this than anyone else will.
