I was just reading a couple of historical articles about Cheaters' Days of old. It made me wonder - what would you do differently to your 410 sprint car for a modern day Cheaters' Day race? No rules, true "run what ya brung".

Question: Will this be racing done at the gone-but-not-forgotten Sioux Empire Fairgrounds track, or is it the newer Husets version of cheater's day?
Peril, not variety, is the true spice of life.

Was some of the most fun - ever - growing up when it came to Cheater's Day. I've been wanting to do a Cheater's Day race down here for a long time. Just waiting for the time to be right. Each year I put it on my 'maybe this will be the year' plan.
Here's some pics of the event from Days Gone By...

Hadn't thought of it. Let's have 2 days. Day one is at Knoxville and day two will be at I-55 in Pevely. This is all hypothetical of course.

Awesome pics. Love that Folkens Bros car. Were the cars much faster with all the mods?

This is just my opinion but Cheaters day is dead and needs to stay that way. Don't get me wrong, I loved Cheaters day back then and those pictures were awesome. But if they had a cheaters day today, it wouldn't be the same in my opinion. I loved seeing the body work they would do but it's my best guess nobody there had ever seen a wind tunnel and it was guys in the shop saying "Let's try this, it looks like it would be faster". I loved the homemade look of the cars, which they were. But today, besides body work what would you do? Trick shocks? Maybe some other suspension stuff? I can't imagine a lot of people are going to want to use some hopped up fuel in their 50-60 thousand dollar motor. And with the "NASCAR" money in the sport today, I would bet that at some point there has been some wind tunnel testing and many of these body mods have been tried. If not I would guess that someone who knows someone who knows Tony Stewart would be able to get into Tony Stewart's wind tunnel for nothing more out of Stewart's curiosity. My point is all the cars would look mostly the same, which would take the fun out of it at least for me. I guess it always seemed like a test and tune experimental kind of thing and not a technology thing if that makes sense?

I was at that race. Was it the year before when Randy Smith wadded up the 55 car in turn one? I remember Jack Hewit showing up for only the day race in a white 23 car too because he had won the year before. That track was huge and the cars would come towards the grandstands after they came our of 4. Thanks for posting!

The trophy girls were before enhancements. No cheating by them.

That is my favorite picture for that reason plus the photographer has a Sid Blanford t-shirt on!

Back in like 1986 or 1987 I seem to remember a car that actually I was told had a blower (supercharger) on the motor. I remember the car coming out of turn 2 entering that long backstretch and passing the field before turn 3...but the blower belt coming off everytime the driver let off the gas for the corner and the car rolling to a stop.
Maybe today one could run a "Procharger" type setup which is a supercharger ran off of the front of the motor....
Works for the "Street Outlaws"...
