Adams Hauls $2,000 Back to Louisiana After Sprint Car Bandits Win at 82 Speedway; Heart O’ Texas Set for This Friday

Garland TX (07/06/20) by DarinShort.com. Fireworks, a full moon and a wide-open racetrack greeted fans and teams on the 4th of July, 2nd Annual Flags & Fireworks 25 at 82 Speedway in Petty, Texas. And when all the wild and highly unpredictable action atop the wide expanses of 82 Speedway had come to a conclusion, 4th place starter, Haughton Louisiana’s Kody Adams, would find his way to the Sprint Car Bandits (SCB) series victory lane for the first time in his career. It was also the 22nd different driver to pick up a Sprint Car Bandits victory in the past 36 events.

Race Rewind: In the first heat race, an advancing Chipper Woods would make hard impact with the wall coming out of corner four and flipped coming to a rest with a mangled car – and Chipper a left shoulder injury. We checked in with Chipper yesterday and he was in good spirits, but still in a lot of pain. Everyone at the Sprint Car Bandits family of teams, fans and series officials wish him a speedy recovery.

Resuming with heat race #1, Dale Wester would make a huge power move on the top shelf of corner 4 from his 4th place starting position and would take an impressive heat race win.

Heat race #2 featured Casey Burkham (starting 2nd) and Koty Adams (starting 4th) finishing first and second – and would also find themselves eventually battling for the lead in the feature later on in the evening. Chad Wilson (May 30th SCB feature winner at 82 Speedway) would fire off in 7th position and drive his way up to 3rd, amassing enough passing points to become the second highest qualifier for the feature event.

Louisiana racer Richard Reynolds would take command of heat race #3 and never looked back taking the win. Slated to start 4th was Chance McCrary, who would encounter engine woes earlier in the evening and scratched for the event.

During intermission, several Sprint Car Bandits teams dawned flags on their cars and participated in the ‘Flags & Fireworks’ special program along with a huge fireworks display and lots of patriotic music. We’d like to thank those drivers for their participation – as the fans totally enjoyed it.

Dale Wester would earn the top points getter honors for the championship feature event, with Chad Wilson, Casey Burkham and Koty Adams rounding out the top 4 starters.

After a spectacular 4-wide parade lap with fireworks ablaze in the sky, North Richland Hills Texas sprint pilot Chad Wilson would set his own blazing trail on the top shelf of the ‘Land of the XL’ and quickly finding himself with lapped traffic on lap 5.

Then disaster struck. Wilson entered corner #1 with Daniel Estes on the high side, the pair would make contact sending the #20 of Wilson spinning and the #72 of Estes flipping wildly outside the racing surface. Estes would emerge from the crash unscathed – but his car wasn’t as lucky. Wilson would find himself relegated to resume the event in 20th.

When the event resumed, fans had one eye focused on the new battle at the front of the field between Burkham and Adams, and their other eye watching Wilson slice and dice his way through the field.

It was then that Richard Reynolds would find his black #5 spinning at the bottom of corner #1, right at the same time as a thundering herd of ‘Bandits drivers were battling side-by-side resulting in a big pileup, and Wilson and Jordan Rupe would find their night coming to an end. This was Rupe’s first-ever SCB event, and it was an unfortunate end to both of those driver’s night.

But this event was far from over at that point. The race would resume and the battle up front raged with Koty Adams leading for several laps and Casey Burkham, Michael Day and Claud Estes III stalking through lapped traffic.

Burkham would blast by Adams to take the lead around lap 17 when a car spun into the infield of corner #4 bringing out the yellow.

The final laps were contested without stoppage and Koty Adams would find himself in SCB victory lane for the first time, with Michael Day finishing a solid 2nd, Claud Estes III in 3rd and Casey Burkham in 4th.

Couple more good pics from Saturday showing how many racing grooves there were at 82 and how close the battles for the lead were. Both of these shots were the battles for the lead.

No photo description available.

Top 6 with around 6 laps to go...
