It seems early to pull the plug on the show at Dubuque tonight.  There is nothing on the radar and nothing expected to develop until late tonight.  We were out of Beaver Dam by 10:00 last night so they can definitely move the show along if needed.   I know they had rain last night, but I didn't think they got hammered.  Or, did they get multiple inches?  I'm a little shocked at it being called already.

My oldest daughter lives in Dubuque actually. She said it has been raining there even more than it has in Ohio. She said it rained some this morning some too. So, I can understand them cancelling the races. Sucks, cause it would be a new track!

Assuming the pictures I saw were recent, I'm surprised the WoO were even going to race there. The catch fence is not nearly tall enough for anything. Especially sprint cars. Maybe what I saw was an old photo and they've since installed adequate fencing?

Yes, it has been a wet spring.  However, they only received .30" in the last 24 hours and 3/4" total in the last 72 hours.  I don't think the last week was extremely heavy as far as rain goes, but I guess I could be wrong-----I'm 40 miles away.  I have seen this track run after MUCH more rain.  I'm not questioning their decision I guess, I'm just saying I'm shocked at the fact that it was called so early and it could not be worked in.  I would also be shocked, with 3/4" of rain in 3 days, if it were called because the grounds were too wet.

It’s also an SLS promotion (i think) running on a Sunday in late model country. A risky proposition and I’m sure they were looking for a good forecast and Some healthy advanced ticket sales in order to push forward.

Dubuque track does not drain well.   I saw a picture of the track at 10 am and I am surprised they waited until then to cancel.

Correct, correct, and correct.  I have been waiting for someone to say it so it doesn't sound like I'm complaining.  The problem with Dubuque is, there is likely never going to be any healthy advanced ticket sales.  The reserved seating is not the place to sit------General Admission is.  However, I think the crowd would have been great tonight.  There is a large fan base in the Dubuque area for racing in general.  I'm hoping Farley and/or Dubuque will give it another try in 2020.  I would really like to see a winged 410 race at each of those joints.

I could see .30" of rain stopping the show if they had been getting pummeled all week.  But, when the rain stops at day break, and they have 12 hours, .3" of an inch should drain off------as I stated, I have gone to races there in the past when they received MUCH more rain than what we've been getting and the show went off without a hitch.

I'm gonig with the opinion of dsc

You would have to see picture of track and grandstands.  Grandstands are up hill and a long distance from track.  I do not see a way a car could go up hill and hit stands.   Track is very nice, sorry for cancellation.

As of 8:35pm Sunday there is still standing water both on the track and in the pits, along with 8" deep ruts in the pits from the heavy equipemnt trying to facilitate drying the pit area this morning.  (Keep in mind, the infield pits are too small for WoO haulers, so the sprint cars would be pitting outside the track behind the backstretch and turns 3&4.  Not much level ground there to begin with, and almost all pit space is grass only, and the already saturated ground was going to be "iffy" at best even without the overnight rain.)  No way the haulers could've driven into the pits without getting stuck today.

That's good on the spectator end of things for sure. Definitely didn't see that in the pic. The likelihood the fence posts themselves penetrating the cockpit of a flipping car looks like a concern however.

Thanks Johnny.  I was just shocked there could still be that much standing water with as little rain as we had gotten in the last week.

Hopefully next year!  Farley Friday, Beaver Dam Saturday, Dubuque Sunday.  Fingers crossed
