Lol, only 2 responses. If the WoO had done this, “dirtlover” would be protesting in the streets.

I'm trying to think of what other big events have just been cancelled in the past?? Last year I know the World 100 was moved from its Original Date to October and so was the Tuscarora 50 but they were able to get rescheduled in some capacity. A few years back didn't the National Open get rained out out 2 of the 3 days and the purse had to be cut from $50k to $25k?

Back in 2015 I was at the Kings Royal when a really bad storm hit as the first Heat was attempting to start and the event was delayed until around 1 or 2 in the morning. I think the checkered fell a little after 4am but the crowd stayed & it was a great night and I think Earl had don this in the past as well.. In the past I remember events involving multiple day shows in Volusia, Charlotte, Jackson Nationals moving previous day events to the morning/early afternoon of the next day & have 2 events in 1 day. On my tix the Knoxville Nationals it shows each event will run.

I liked the idea of the SCWC and appluad Cody for trying this but it just seems odd to me that you put a show on this and you do not have any kind of back up plan if weather goes bad. I understand that you cannot do anything about the weather or how much water gets dropped onto the track but I would think that if you were putting on an event like this you would make sure you have a fall back plan. Not just for Saturday but for the Thursday as well. It seems that if it was other promoters they would have moved Thursday's show to Friday, and Friday's to early Saturday then run The final even saturday evening. If Saturday did not run and you had already done the previous 2 shows, then Saturday's could have been moved to Sunday and you move up the start time a couple hours or so.

A few years ago, the grove had all 3 days of the Natty Open rained out and they went to a one day show paying 25k a few weeks later (run on a Friday). To keep the momentum of the race going, they could have done that perhaps the day before Ohio Speedweeks started. I bet they would have gotten a good crowd.

I just don’t know why you’d have such a major event with no planned rain date.

The 2015 Brad Doty Classic was not run. That's the biggest race I can think of.

Bummer. Weather hasn't been kind to this even so far, and yeah I don't understand why they wouldn't have ran it Sunday. Hopefully this event will continue and finally be blessed with good weather and a smooth track. Sprint car racing needs big paying non-WOO events like this IMO.

When they shut it down Sat they said the forecast was showing rain most of Sunday. I dont know whether weather was right or not. Please send Canada some of your rain and we will send you our top politician in exchange.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

The Doty isn’t a “big” race really.  It is a standard WoO purse with zero extra money added.

The track must have been looking at the forecast for Mansfield, Missouri, or one of the 5 other “ Mansfield’s “ in the U.S., because Sunday in Ohio was a beautiful day and evening. I’m guessing that the future there is questionable.

Ha ha , no thank you on that top politician thing. You can keep him!

The forecasts have been terribly wrong. It wasn't supposed to rain at Mansfield Saturday until at least 11:00pm, and even then it was like 35% chance, they said. Same with Thursday. Sunday forecast was for more rain and it turned into a nice day.

Go figure.

The name alone makes it a 'big' race and every guy out there wants to win it, believe me.  It ain't always about the coin, it's about winning an event named after one of the most popular sprint car racers of all-time and maybe the classiest man in the whole sport.  Ask some of the previous winners how they feel about that win and you'll get it.....

It’s big because it kicks off the “month of money”and gets a huge field. It’s also a t shirt race but I’d put it on the level of the Front Row Challenge race in terms of big race rankings.

The whole not being able to find a date that wouldn’t go against another series or event is a sham. It’s 100k race is the cars don’t come back there’s another problem. This is the same track that put on a race against the Knoxville Nationals the last two years. Cute excuse tho and most people will gobble it up.

Agreed. The Doty Classic could pay $1500 to win and it would still draw a lot of big names. Brad means a lot to the sport therefore, his race means a lot to many people including the drivers who universally respect him.

Agreed. Sure everyone loves Brad but if they truly want to make it big race, then the purse needs to reflect that. There's lots and lots and then more lots of tribute races to great drivers/owners/promoters. The Doty is 1 of them.

There is lliterally no benefit to adding money to the Doty race.  It is already a race that everyone wants to win, draws tons of fans and cars and is well respected.  All adding purse would do is increase ticket prices.  The race is great as is.

As far as big events not having a rain date The Show Me 100 was Tornado'd out this year and they are not making it up..... Although they did make the Diamond Nationals a 2 day show instead of a 1 day show because of the Show Me cancellation
