We need to remember that the WoO are a melting pot of racers. Coming from all parts of the U.S. and even foreign ground. We discuss all the time about the success of certain areas vs the Outlaws, but how about a discussion regarding the WoO and where the drivers came from. Who gets the bragging rights on that point. Here is a breakdown of the U.S. in racing regions. I tried to base the breakdown on population of people and number of race tracks available. I came up with five regions. So in area, some regions are larger than others. So, who has the bragging rights of being the Capitol of the WoO melting pot? Smile

Western States- Southwest, Midwest-upper Midwest, Illinois-Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Southeast.

For the last 12 years... North Dakota so I guess upper midwest even though they unfortunately dont seem to have many tracks that way now.

You're basing that on Schatz I assume. Bad analogy tho, Gravel is one of the best & Connecticut rates a flat out ZERO for dirt tracks.....

I was referring to the entire 40 year history of the WoO not just a segement. I guess I wasn't clear enough. So in that regard, not just any one driver would carry a region by himself. As much as Schatz means to the upper Midwest, his numbers still are far short of what Kinser would mean to Illinois-Indiana. And yes, the upper Midwest region is larger than Indiana, but the number of tracks alone in Illinois-Indiana that run or ran sprints over the past 40 years out numbers the entire upper Midwest. The upper Midwest has a few hotbeds of population following the sprints in comparison to nearly all of Illinois-Indiana over the years.

Gravel could be inserted in to the PA region.....which is closest to his home area, but his wins total doesn't make that much of an impact yet, anyhow, considering the entire 40 years of the WoO. So for the regions I broke down there is some gray areas regarding out of the way tracks/drivers.

By way of clarification the upper Midwest would include the Dakota's, Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Iowa, Illinois, Indiana are in the Midwest.  Upper Midwest roots, Schatz, Wolfgang, Dobmeier and way back in history Jerry Richert, Scratch Daniels, Don Mack and John Stevenson to name a few.

With the exception of Grand Forks and a few shows at Jackson the upper Midwest is mostly 360s, the IRA, IMCA at Arlington, MN, and a couple of up and coming non wing groups.  UMSS and Wisconsin wingless.  Not much 410 racing outside of GF (a 5 hour drive from the Twin Cities) and some specials at CLS, Granite City and a few others.  That's the "lay of the land" up here.

That's why I combined the upper Midwest and Midwest as one region. I'm well aware of the Dakotas/Minnesota racing scene from way back. And we're talking WoO, which is well past the Jerry Richert Sr and the Daniels brothers era....and those others you mentioned in a previous post. I have only glanced at the WoO win totals, and not tallied anything. But a quick glance and I think the Illinois-Indiana region is probably number one in driver WoO wins. Upper Midwest-Midwest probably second......and then maybe Ohio or Pennsylvania......that's probably pretty close......

At some point this will all just break down into argueing over who is from where and what part of California is considered Posse.Smile

Indiana kind of nails it on account of Kinser, Kinser, Kinser Saldana, etc.

The middle /upper sort of part of the country is close behind- Schatz, Wolfgang, Dollanksy, Dobmeier, McCarl, McCarl, McCarl, Madsen, Madsen, Tatnell, Brown, Lasoski, Balog etc.

Bragging rights turns into bitching rights and bitching about bragging rights, and bragging about bitching rights, etc. Instead, let's voe on our favorite kind of dirt track racing. I vote for sprint cars. I greatly prefer them over B-Mods.

That WoO thing catches me every time.  I never think of them first (or read the post I'm answering completely).  wink

From my igloo i obviously dont have a side on the Posse Outlaw thing. It is kind of comical reading your posts til they get overcooked but...

Were the Shark teams Posse until they joined the WoO?

If a Shark car wins in Penn who gets the credit? Posse fans or WoO fans?

I ask this cause i read Stevie Smith won a race as a Posse but he also raced fulltime WoO as far as I know.

Seriously do the Posse drivers give up their status if they join the WoO?

Also, has Jacob Allen cranked it up a notch or am I just noticing him a bit more for no new reasons?

Even though I may not know you, I

For what it's worth, Oklahoma on it's own has produced some excellent drivers. I would say that within the last 4-5 years California and Oklahoma drivers have fared very well besides Schatz's dominance. I'm kind of looking at more than just WoO though.

Exactly!

Even tho Shark team races with WoO, I still consider them Posse

Its all in fun, nobody should take it too seriously

Pretty easy to agree with that. When Schatz wins he represents ND first to his home fans, but to the rest of the world he's an Outlaw. Same with the Shark teams. To the world they are Outlaws, to the PA fans they are Posse. But because of how their bread is now buttered, a win by the boys does fall into the Outlaw column. So, Posse fans are rooting for the Outlaws at times, even though they may hate the idea......Smile     (all in fun I know)

Have you not heard?  PA all the way.  If you're not from PA, someone you know is from PA and that makes you Posse.  I even heard PA was voted the toughest region in Australia.

David Gravel is Posse because that is the closest state with sprint car racing.

Even Steve Kinser is Posse because the guy that drove his hauler had a guy walk his dog and that guy had a cousin from Pittsburgh.  That makes him Posse.

My family actually settled in PA when they immigrated here in the 1800's.  I always wondered why I had a crush on my first cousins.  Anyways, I am also Posse.

Yes folks, we can thank everyone for our connection to the Posse.  I just read the Ferris wheel was invented in PA.  And, who likes the Ferris wheel?  Well, everyone in the top 15 in WoO points of course.  You got it.........all Posse now!!!!!!!
