Made my first trip to Jackson Motorplex last night.  Just happened to be on the way home from my family trip to the Black Hills.  (My planning wasn't by accident)

Here's what I thought:

1.  Absolutely BEAUTIFUL facility!  I'd heard it was nice.  I'd seen pictures.  I still couldn't believe how nice it was as I was walking up from the parking lot.  WOW!

2.  The track and the track prep was immaculate as well.  (was wet and cool but not alot can be done about that)

3.  They kept the show rolling once they got going.  They got rain the night before and the track was wet, it was cloudy and the temp was cool.  However, they advertised 7:30 hot laps and hot laps went off at 7:32.  Sure the track was wet and took two sets of hot laps from the 410's but they did the best with what they had.

4.  Tenderloin rivals that of Knoxville

5.  Restrooms?  Food line?   Do they put more in place for Jackson Nationals?   No complaints from me as I wasn't drinking last night (ok Maddog--I had 2) and I didn't get anything at the food line besides when we first entered the gate. However, it seemed like the lines were long for a weekly show.  Just curious if they expand on the food booths or add extra porta potty's for bigger shows???

6.  I'm coming back!  I've heard the racing is great so I imagine when the track is a bit slicker, the racing is quite a bit better.  ?

(Just wish my original plans would have worked out as I had planned on doing Badlands Motor Speedway on the way out the Saturday night before----I made my reservations last fall)

As a fan of and a longtime regular at Jackson, I enjoyed your review. As fans we're suppose to take pride in our local or favorite tracks. And those of us who have been going there for many years are in awe of the transformation and we are excited about what is ahead. My exact same reaction was WOW the first time I drove in to the parking lot and entered the grandstand area. And that was before completion. The Midwest is struggling with car counts right now, and there were some drivers absent Friday night that normally help "spice up" the competition. I'm optimistic that we will see growth in the 410 class in the Midwest, it will just take some time. Jackson Speedway (previous name) had gotten pretty stale. There was no 410 class for quite some time, and no continuing investments to improve the track or the facilities. Because of that there were a lot of discouraging remarks/opinions bantered about regarding the place and the racing. It had been going down hill. The new owner as many know, Tod Quiring,  has been involved in sprint car racing for a pretty lengthy time, and he does it from both a business standpoint, and the fact that he really enjoys sprint car racing. Doug Johnson, the track manager, is very much a fan as well and brings his own excitement to the place. Both understand that the fans and the race teams are what makes a facility successful. That's a combination that will keep Jackson Motorplex growing and becoming even more entertaining. The WOW aspect of the place is only a portion of the investment that has gone into the place. They have really put an effort out to improve the track surface, lighting, fencing, the whole works. And yes, thay do have plans to improve the concession facilities to accomodate a large flow of fans. They've had to prioritize those things they felt needed to be addressed first, so the show could go on so to speak. As you could see, it's been a huge undertaking to get it where it is. And really in just two years. Weather robbed them of several months worth of work early on. I really do hope you can make it back. Maybe during a special event. We hope Jackson Motorplex becomes one of the premier facilities in the country, and a destination for sprint car fans from all over.

And also yes, the restrooms are in store for a major overhaul and such. That's also a very important item when it comes to fan convenience, fan opinion, and a growing and returning fan base.

Thanks for the info blazer.  My 13 year old son and I decided Friday night----if his baseball schedule isn't too demanding next year at that exact time (he can miss a game maybe) we are going to try to come out and camp for the Jackson Nationals.  (camping on site?)

Yeah there is camping on-site.   Blazer, are there plans to put a wall in 1&2  and redo 3&4?  Agree with everything said with your review.  I also dig the full bar!

I'm not sure exactly the plans regarding additional wall changes and I don't want to speculate.  It's my understanding that several things are being discussed, but nothing concrete (forgive the pun Smile 0)  has been stated. It's a work in progress. I know they are listening to feed back from drivers and teams on that, as well as fans on other changes going forward. I  did hear that they want to expand the camping facility, which will help in attracting fans from further distances away. That's something that is very important to them. The place doesn't need bragged up at all, but from what we've seen and enjoyed thus far, they are very serious about making this an extraordinary place to go to. The excitement among my friends and many other fans that I know is fun to see and hear after all the years of wishing something like this would happen. All of us on Hoseheads, and race fans in general love their race tracks and are loyal as all get out. So forgive me if my excitement shows through.

Annother qiuck note.....when I use the word "we".....I'm refering to my fan friends and other fans I know and visit with. Don't think for a minute that I am anything but a fan at Jackson Motorplex and I don't pretend to be anything else. I listen well when those who are involved speak, that's all.

You should be proud and excited to have a track like Tha in your back yard.  We had a track near us and it was not nice.  Was closed and is now a corn field.   There are now some rumblings of a new track as I am friends with a few guys on the development committee.    There was a vote on the November ballot to allow alcohol sales in the township they want to put the track and it passed.  Site is picked out.  Just waiting to see if it all happens.  After visiting Jackson, I am excited about the possibility of having a new facility in my area.  Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best!   (Any knew news Shanefan?)

Reliable source told me that they are definately cutting the track size down and adding a wall.  This is great news and should add some racing to what is typically a single file track.  And it is my opinion that the track prep team (Baker) doesnt really know how to set up a track right for good racing anyway, so hopefully a smaller track helps a lot.

A lot of us "die hards" are hoping that the reduction doesn't take place. And I'm not sure how many times you've been to the new Jackson in the past two years, because the sprint Feature racing has been anything but follow the leader most weeks. Not saying that due to weather conditions track prep hasn't been difficult a time or two, but I and many others think Baker is doing a fine job prepping.

I've been meaning to ask you about that place.  Keep me posted

Please, don't change a thing.  As a Badlands regular (when they are in business) it's pretty refreshing to come to Jackson and see the crazy speeds the 410's can generate, with great racing and multiple grooves.  I heard Jason Johnson and others compare turns 1/2 to Williams Grove and turns 3/4 to Knoxville.  Let's hope it stays that way.  Bakker does a great job with the track.

Thanx,
Bruce

I'm 100% with you, Blazer. Really hope they don't change anything with the track config. As for the racing and track prep/conditions, it is 1000 times better than it ever was when back in the Jackson Speedway days. Yes, weather plays a huge role on both of these however, over the last two years the track regularly seems to have multiple grooves which makes for great racing. Hats off to Baker and crew

After going to all three nights of the WoO nationals, I'm really looking forward to attending the multiple day ASCS show in September. The town of Jackson is quite nice and has a lot to offer during the day. Bringing the bikes and golf clubs

No doubt it was weather last Friday that was responsible for the follow the leader show.  Cool and damp.  Rain the night before.  They did all they could do.

I sure wish you could have caught a good night of sprint car racing on your stop. Us local fans want nothing more than for visiting fans to see what the place has to offer in the form of good racing.

Easy to stay in touch here on Hoseheads. When you get back again I'd like to introduce you to some pretty keen sprint car fans, and have the opportunity to meet! If you come for the Jackson Nationals, the Iowa Great Lakes are just a 1/2 hour or so south of Jackson. A great place to spend part of a day.
