The way Hodnett is running right now reminds me of the way he ran in the Hamilton 77 (just never seemed to jell) 410 continues to drop back no matter where he starts,360 has speed but im pretty sure Greg wantsv to run mostly 410.

Heffner should call Stevie or Sammy to run a second car (ITS AMAZING WHAT A FEW YEARS WORKING WITH THE BANDIT AND OF COARSE DAD DID FOR FAST Freddie the second.)

And Look what Gravel is doing after working with Sammy for a year ,How many people are even giving him some credit for the success Gravel is having?

Heffner doesn't need to call anyone. This team won how many races from 2014-2016? They'll be just fine. They'll figure it out. Every one goes through slumps and right now, the Heffner team is in one right now. Before long, they'll be back to winning on a regular basis. The instances you're speaking of involved young, up and coming drivers. Hodnett is s seasoned veteran. He doesn't need a mentor.

This has happened with Hod in the past...He sometimes starts the season  off slow...reminds me of the start Dietrich had last season.  the competition is catching up as well...Schatz isn't kicking everyone's ass by a corner anymore either!

Hod will be fine. You'll be complaining he's winning too much by August!

I agree.....no reason to panic" just yet". The team apparently did try a Maxim chassis last night at Williams Grove just to see if that was the problem....... which from the results, I guess not.

Finally giving up on triplejunk is a step in the right direction, but they are lucky there is a weight rule or they would really be off the pace.

Got news for you, Gravel isn't running is good as he is because of Sammy.   Since the WoO and other 410 tracks went to the current Hoosier tires from Goodyear, Sammy has been out to lunch on dryslick tracks.    That team was running good with Gravel before Sammy ran a second car for them, and were consistently running up front and finishing ahead of Sammy when he did run the second car.    Sammy usually would qualify well, but would generally fade towards the back when the track got slick.   It was because he could not nail the setup on slick tracks.   Sammy is a great driver and several years ago was probably a go to guy on chassis setup, but not with this current tire.   I actually overheard him telling someone this myself!    My guess is that if he had figured it out at any point he probably wouldn't be running exclusively 360s now.

With respect to Hodnett, they will figure it out soon enough.

Correct.   Sammy is not responsible for Gravel's success.

The irony is that Greg Hodnett would be the guy you'd call to run a second car to help sort things out.

Greg was up on the wheel hard last night at Selinsgrove; however, Mark Smith and Davie

Franek were much his equal.  Smith wins over Franek, Hodnett - a shout out to Derek Locke

who battled hard and has really put himself in the "Mix."

the fight for position with Franek, Hodnett, Locke, Keller, and Layton was intense

and fun to witness.

Nothing I said about Sammy is "mostly false".   I never said Sammy couldn't wheel a car any more.   I said he had never figured out a dryslick setup that would work with this new Hoosier tire.   And I was standing right next to Sammy when I heard him tell someone else that very fact.   He may indeed be running a Memphis area 360 car because he doesn't want to travel as much.    If he goes 410 racing though, he'll be hard pressed to be competitive.   How else did he go from leading all but the end of the 2010 Knoxville Nationals and then struggle to even qualify for the A in recent years?

Considering that his chassis guy is a communist living in China, I think he has done very well.  You guys are awfully critical and judge mental.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

I witnessed what might be Sammy's last 410 win (& Kinser's last race) at Lebanon Valley last fall, beat a solid Allstar field, looked pretty damn good to me....

Very ironic that he had such bad luck with Goodyears blowing out when he was leading, then he rarely won on Hoosiers

Oh well...

I actually thought going back to Hoosiers would be good for Sammy.   It was pretty shocking to go to my first 410 Nationals and see Sammy and Steve both miss making the feature.

If you can recall only three years ago Sammy was running the second car for testing purposes and Gravel was still driving the Destiny #7 ,Mcmahon was good in the 51 but right now they are clearly second best.

History has a way of repeating itself remember Dewease in the #27 ,remember Freds last year in the CJB #51 SOME TIMES IT JUST DOESNT WORK.

Rember the Chesson boys a guy named Swindell tought them just about everything,Dad Just Added The Money.

Actually, you are correct that it was McMahon in the car when Sammy drove the car.   I stand corrected on that.  However, I would add that McMahon was running consistently ahead of Sammy the entire time.   I never saw where McMahon's results got any better from there, or else maybe he wouldn't have lost the ride.   As far as the Chessons go, that was a very long time ago and a very different tire they were running on.   I'm saying that Sammy can't make a car go forward with the current Hoosier WoO tire on dryslick surfaces.

Incidentally, if anyone watched Winged Nation on MavTV this past Saturday morning they did the show from the KKR shops.  They interviewed both drivers and Kale Kahne, and he talked about the issues with this new tire.    He said that everyone had a steep learning curve with it and that it had taken KKR awhile to figure some things out, mainly because the tires don't grow during the feature like the old ones did.    Some teams obviously had a handle on it pretty quick, but KKR had gotten behind the curve, and for once in his career Sammy got behind the curve on it too.    It's too bad, imagine the WoO with Sammy running as good as he did in 2010.    Now we just get to see he him in a few ASCS races.
