Has anyone played the new iracing dirt expansion?

I've never joined iracing but with the new late model/sprint car expansion I've thought about joining. Just wanting to see everyones thoughts on it.

How exactly do you pay for it? It looks likes you can pay per month or year or even two years. After you purchase the membership you have a one time purchase of each car type? So I would need to purchase the sprint car. If my license bumped up, I would need to purchase the faster sprint car to be able to compete at the next level?

Just trying to get an idea of the cost. I'm sure a steering wheel is almost a must as well?

Do it.  Got it last week and it has been a blast.  The expensive part isn't the membership or even getting the racecars for that matter.  The equipment and accessories to run it are the expensive part.  A pretty good internet connection is important to have, otherwise the game will jump and skip around, more than likely the admin of the session will kick you out if you are the one causing it.  I am running it on a pretty good laptop and it does fine.  However, after playing it for the past week, I am looking for ways to upgrade to a better system to get the most out of it.  A steering wheel and pedals is pretty important to have.  Really defeats the purpose of playing if you dont have one of them.  Unfortunately, this is the spendy part.  You will want a steering wheel and pedals with force feedback.  A good one of these will range you from $150 and above.

But to start off, you must pay your membership and then in order to get the dirt package, you must purchase them and that is another $56 dollars.  That will include all the tracks, all 3 late models, street stock, legend car, and all 3 sprint cars. It is a lot of fun, and addicting.

It is absolutely amazing and worth every penny you spend on it

Agreed, easily the most realistic dirt game ever made. It even beats the legendary World of Outlaws 2002 season. Like WhiskeyOutlaw said, the expensive part is getting set up with a good computer, monitors, wheel, etc. I went all out with it with triple monitors and a G27 logitech wheel and pedals. Its still awesome on a laptop or whatever, but it makes the game even better having it set up with triples and a wheel. I even have my Butler seat mounted to a base for it.

It's spendy to go all in on it, but it's worth every penny, I have about 1,200 into the setup but the more you spend (to a point) the better and more realistic it will be for you, you can go anywhere from using an Xbox controller and a laptop to a triple monitor setup, with a racing seat. But you can get a very nice setup for around 6-800 bucks

Thanks for the info guys. Guess I'll have to get it! I have a decent laptop and a dell 24" monitor I can hook up. Possilbly a 32" samsung TV I have laying around.

Any suggestions on a good wheel? Seems like logitech is the main manufacture of the higher end wheels.

The Logitech G27 is a very common and very good wheel. And pretty affordable. The g29 is the newer version of that. The Thrustmaster PC racer is also a really nice wheel. Its smoother than the Logitech since its belt drive force feedback and not gear driven like the Logitech. I used a 40" tv for a week till my monitors showed up. The 3 monitors is the only way to go imo. I got the Asus VS247H-P from Amazon for 110 each and they are awesome. 1920x1080 super clear hd resolution.

Also a couple other helpful hints for anyone else looking to get into it, Iracing has a safety rating system. Offical races will dock your safety rating if you hit the wall, hit other cars, lose control, etc. To race bigger and better races you need to get your rating up by racing clean in the official races. For the most part, the people that race on there are all good clean racers. So be mindful of that and do your best to keep it clean.

If you are like me, it takes a lot of laps to feel comfortable..... I mean a lot of laps.  I have zero racing experience other than go karts on my farm growing up, but have grown up around the sport and have become a big fan.  I spent the first 5 days of having it just practicing by myself in a 305 around Eldora, then after a day of that then went to practicing by myself in a 360, then started going into hosted practices with other cars, then finally started doing some hosted races in the 305 & 360.  It is really hard to get the hang of.  Now I am doing the same in the 410.  I am sure it is realistic, I have just never gotten behind the wheel of a sprint car so I wouldn't know.  But once you start racing in races, it becomes extremely addicting and a blast!

I have a Thrustmaster T150 wheel and pedals.  Steering wheel and the force feedback are good, the pedals are not that great, but do the job fine.  You can buy these for about $200

The G27 does seem to have good reviews. If I'm spending $300 or so, I would also like something compatable with my PS4 as well. I've done a little research and it seems like the G29 would be the way to go if I want something compatiable with both?

As Whiskey said, I'm sure this is a handful when starting out. I'm just glad sprint car fans have something like this. FINALLY!

Now, all you have to do is goto the classified section, purchase a used roller, mount your wheel and monitor into the car and you will be all set. Bonus points if you have your friend throw mud at you as you race.

really... that seems a bit steep to meet the specs for iracing. I would check around the net, surely there is cheaper than that.

I bought a used computer for $400. Has a good processor and nvidia gtx 1050i graphics card and it works awesome. I have a couple chassis in the trees Ive junked over the years. I seriously thought about doing that. Not sure what that ol lady would think about dragging a chassis into the house.

If you are just looking for something strictly for the game, I would look at getting a desktop tower.  A good tower will run you $500 or less.  One that will easily meet or easily exceed the minimum requirements won't break the bank like a gaming laptop will.  Most desktops will have an integrated video card that will run iracing with no issues, but the nice thing with desktops is you can install a better graphics card if you want better performance down the road, something you can't do with a laptop.  Upgrading RAM is also much easier in a desktop.  Also, if you are looking at doing the multiple monitor setups, desktops are more capable of that over a laptop.  Just something to think about if you are looking at getting a whole new setup to race with.

I just use a wired xbox 360 controller and I routinely place top 5 in a middle split with 360/305s. Don't have the offical 410 series unlocked yet as I'm not high enough SR class. It's around $20 for that so if you're hesitant I would get that first before sinking hundreds into wheel/pedals.

Personally I'd stay away from the thrust master T150,  it's 200 some dollars and zero quality in my opinion and you can get a Logitech g29 new on eBay for an extra 50-70 dollars.... well worth it, I've used both and Logitech g29 is definitely the way to go on a budget

I did the iracing thing for awhile, haven't done it for 2-3 years now.  In a fan of decent used tower PCs as long as it's a true ATX form factor. That way you can expand it with off the shelf parts.  Gotta be careful about some desktop units. They aren't ATX thus can't really do any upgrades.
