With Jackson Motorplex hosting (2) big events, USAC Thursday June23rd and then the WoO on Friday June 24th, we have decided to postpone our 360 sprint car race at Fairmont which was to be held this Thursday June 16th. We will work with the Jackson Motorplex officials to see if we can find a better suitable date to hold this race. (From Jon McCorkel - 6/13/16)

I don't see what a USAC show and the WoO a week later at Jackson have to do with a 360 race at Fairmont

this week.  can z-man explain please?

With these tracks only (28) miles apart, the promoter feels that the area sprint car fans will not spend the money to come to Fairmont when they are planning on (2) big races a week later...z

Believe it or not, some promoters still need to worry about how many tickets they are going to sell and how they are going to cover the night's purse.  They all can't just wrecklessly hand out free passes and gold coins at the drop of a hat.

Unfortunatly, it's that wreckless behavior that is ultimately hurting our sport.

No, you want to know what the story is? Jackson has a couple of big time shows on back to back nights. And there is only so much the spectators can afford to spend or are willing to spend. Add in that the last 360 show at Fairmont drew 13, yes, 13 cars. They got zero support from the Sioux Falls area 360s. Maybe they need time to figure how to draw those cars, as well.

And, it seems, you are one of those that would bitch about a new rope......................................

Can't blame the Sioux Falls cars for "zero support" of a THURSDAY show that is over 2 hours from home.  Most the 360 guys do have jobs I would guess, and getting to that show that far away would mean time off work?? Just a thought... also then would need to do maintenance/etc. on car before the weekend racing as well.   Good call by the promoter here i feel, also only so much entertainment $$s for the fans to go around as well!

That's why I said they may need time to figure out how to get the Sioux Falls cars to show. And I agree it's a good call by the promotors.

They need to have that show on Saturday following Jackson on Friday. The cars will already be there and most of the drivers who race these events arent knoxville teams so there is little to no competition for cars. Thay also need to find a water truck and someone who knows what they are doing as far as track prep goes for sprint. Like i said in a post previously, youre asking these teams to take an extra day off of work and have them spend $800 in tires because Fairmont is the most abrasive track this side of the Mississippi. If they run on Saturday then these 360 teams could race Friday at Jackson, Saturday at Fairmont and Sunday at Badlands. All within 2 hours of eachother with good payouts.

I dunno.  I can't see how anybody could claim that the clams inprove aerodynamics, but it doesn't matter because there's no mention in the rules about them anyway, stewed or not.

The important thing is that every thread get turned into another Knoxville / Badlands peeing match.  Tastes Great / Less Filling! Bring back the Larson / Anti-Larson good-old-days threads.

If Larson were racing sprint cars again, would he race at Knoxville or Badlands?  Would he race a clam or non-clam car?

Maybe you missed my point.

I guess what I should have said is....  A) There are promoters that can hand out as many free passes and gold coins as they want without worrying about whether or not they have enough money to cover the expenses of the night, let alone turn a profit.  and B) There are promoters that have to worry about every ticket and hot dog they sell if they have any chance of simply breaking even.  I think the promoter of the Fairmont race is in category B.

Looks like this promoter made a smart choice in his own best interest.  Seems it's the promoters in category A that are hurting the sport.

I agree completely in the end throwing all this money around wrecklessly will hurt the sport.  Eventually all those promoters that do have to count every penny will be completely pushed out and in the end that means less places to race.  I just wonder if these certain promoters will keep throwing all this money around once the competition is gone.  At that point there really wouldn't be any need to.

If you think a promoter throwing money around for the top guys is a good thing....just say so. Why instead do you come up with a smart ass remark?

If you have money to throw around and want to impress me, don't give the winner an extra $5000.  Give all the guys in the A feature an extra $200 and those in the B feature $100.  That would impress me and about 30 racers.  What better incentive to get cars back next week?

Bingo .We have a winner for common sense.Pit passes ans fuel cost the same whether you run 1st or 21st and you need cars to make a race. Many times the winners usually have a much better budget to work with.I have often wondered [of course I know the answer] why the top teams get free stuff and 2nd tier teams pay  for it.

I think everyone should just get the same amount of money $1,000 for 1-24. Why pay the better cars more it just makes them better.

Weird....every team at Badlands got 4 free pit passes...which equaled about $6700...

Oh and I think NBA D Leauge and WNBA Players should get paid just as much as Lebron and the gang!!

I understand what you're saying.  Using your logic to the extrme, why not pay the winner $25,000 and everyone else $0.  Cerainly that would attract more cars- right?  This whole Tastes Great/ Less Filling rant seems to boil down to  using car counts to keep score.  The $25,00 winner take all race would be Huge!  I tell you. Huge!  No one has ever done anything like this.  Just Huge!

While we're at it, do we have to give all of them participation trophies, as well?
