Background

This summer will be the first time in 30 years that I will not go to a race with my dad. For 18 years we watched others race and for 12 years we raced our own car. 5 of those years were spent racing a UMSS sprint car. But after losing dad to lung cancer our racing story has come to a close. I retired from racing 2 days before learning about dad's cancer.

Cedar Lake Speedway is a very special race track to me. Between 1996 and 2015 my dad and I spent many nights there together. The UMSS sprint car series means a tremendous amount to me.

The UMSS 360 sprint cars will be racing at CLS on Saturday May 7th. I would like to use that night to show my appreciation for dad introducing me to racing many years ago, to Cedar Lake Speedway, and to the UMSS series.

Gale Patterson Hard Charger Award

My goal is to raise $500 so I can give an award to the driver that passes the most cars during the A-main. In addition, I will personally give $100 to the crew chief of the car. Total award to the team will be $600.

My dad was my crew chief all the years I raced. He started from scratch in terms of knowledge but he was always there for me. I want the crew chief to receive recognition and an award.

Gale Patterson Father Son/Daughter Team Award

If more than $500 is raised, I would like to have a second award. I would create a pool of all sprint car teams in the field that are father and son/daughter race teams. A random draw would award that team with cash and/or product.

My race team was always a father and son race team. It is very special connection within racing.

Solicitation of Award Sponsorship

I am writing this to solicit help in raising cash and/or product to make these awards a reality and bigger. This is not a charity request – all money will go straight to race teams to be used at their discretion and I will not keep any of it. I will be contributing to the awards myself.

If you’re interested in supporting these awards, any amount would be greatly appreciated. $25, $50, or $100+ would help reach the goal. I am hoping the awards are big enough to make a meaningful impact for the race teams receiving them.

Contact me directly at [email protected] or 612-408-6027 if you want to support with cash or product. If you are unable to support the award but are in the area, come on out and enjoy a night of sprint car racing at Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday May 7th. This is a one-time deal and is not a memorial race. Simply just a couple of awards within the UMSS 360 sprint car season opener. If May 7th is canceled, the awards will be given at the next UMSS race at CLS.

I’m extremely excited to say we have surpassed our goals for dad’s awards! Currently, we have raised $2,650 ($2,075 in cash and $575 in product.)

1)      $1,275 Purse Increase

  • A-main will be $300 to start

2)      $600 Hard Charger Award

  • $500 cash to driver
  • $100 cash to crew chief

3)      $385 Magnesium Motorplate

  • Driver that starts 15th in the A-main

4)      $200 Father and Son/Daughter Award

  • Random cash award

5)      $140 (2) Sets of Weld Front Hub Dust Covers

  • One set for each challenge race winner

6)      $50 of Brake Cleaner

  • Driver that finishes 15th in A-main

I will proudly highlight those who donated to these awards during the UMSS pit meeting and hopefully at another time during the evening. Without the generosity of so many people these awards simply would not happen.

It is exciting to help as many core UMSS teams that we can but I also hope this encourages other teams to race with the UMSS on May 7that CLS.

My dad’s commitment to my racing embodies what many fathers do for their son/daughter in racing. This night will honor my dad and all dads that support their children’s dreams.

If you would still like to support these awards, you certainly are welcome to. I will put the money directly into the purse or at your discretion.

Share this message with as many people as you can to increase the car and fan count.

My sincerest gratitude,

Chad Patterson
