I'm wondering how the car count situation is going to play out this weekend. Last weekend Lincoln had 26 cars as the only track running, and now Port is opening presumably taking Hodnett, Ott, and others with them. I'm wondering if anyone is thinking that the car counts will be low at one track or the other. I'll be making my first trip of the season to Port (I'm a LM fan at heart) but the racing last Sunday at Lincoln was great and I hope to see both tracks get decent car counts -- but in order for that to happen some more cars are going to have to come out, any news on that or where the big name drivers are going?

Thanks,

Jeff.

Ott running Port is an interesting case study: Lincoln is less than 10 miles from the shop - Port is about 70. So much for the local track theory.

Boy, I was hoping this wasn't going to be another pissing match for the umteenth time.

Looking over past results, Port Royal had (22) 410 Sprints on opening night in 2015 and (19) Super Late Models.
The second week of the 2015 season Port had (25) 410 Sprints and (25) Super Late Models.

I agree with that for sure, I never understood why anyone is against one track or the other. If it is an oval that is covered in dirt I'm all for it. I live in Littlestown and go to Lincoln a good bit, and love the racing there. I also go to the Grove quite a bit, and enjoy the racing there as well. I don't get to make as many trips to Port but I love the racing there as well. There is absolutely nothing to dislike about the racing situation in the Central PA area. We are very lucky, and fans all over the country would be thrilled to live in this area.

I hope we see 22 (or more) sprints at Port this weekend, the only thing that has concerned me is the somewhat low counts at Lincoln so far this year even when they are the only show around. I can count a few drivers who have been at Lincoln both weeks that will likely be going to Port as well.

I am really hoping to see at least a full field at both tracks this week, that would be great.

Thanks,

Jeff.

Well said. I get sick and tired of the constant pissing contest over the whole Port vs. Lincoln thing. Both are great tracks and anyone who disagrees with that is a complete and total idiot. There was a time not long ago when Port was a shithole with a surface that was shitty at best but those days are long gone. I think both tracks will be fine but I find it quite interesting that Dietrich is undecided as to where he'll be racing. I would've never guessed that he'd be anywhere other than Lincoln unless it's a higher paying show or something going on. I guess we'll see. I still think in the end he'll probably be at Lincoln but I wonder why he's even considering Port?

2 reasons.

1. Lincoln starts at 2, and port starts at 5.  So he might try and do the double.

2.  His Sponsor Weikert's Livestock sponsors the 410 point fund, so that might have some pull.

Have the last few events at Lincoln been points events? If so then could it be points related? After a tough start at Lincoln he could essentially hit the reset button and go race at Port Royal for points instead? Not that I think that would be a good idea given his proximity to (and fanbase at) Lincoln.

Trying to do the double would make sense, especially since he really does not have anything to lose with Port at this point as he isn't running there for points. If he makes it he makes it, if he dosen't he dosen't.

Thanks,

Jeff.

Yes they have been points races but, you can't base a season off of just the first 2 races.

I am no spokesman for any driver or team other than myself, so I don't know the thought process, just what I see as a possiblity.

I just hope all racers and race fans support all tracks as much as they can afford and all tracks listen to all parties involved to let the sport prosper not just in PA, but all over the world.

I have no idea what to expect as far as car counts. I think they may be down a little bit everywhere this year. Fewer teams, higher cost and MORE races...go figure! I think Port stands to gain a couple 360 Selinsgrove regs (who have 410's) and definitely a few SG LM's the first few weeks. Forecast isn't looking good for this weekend however.

Both tracks will be fine as always.   Port will get around 24-26 every week.    Lincoln will also be fine as Tyler Ross, Randy Baughman, Brad Howard, JJ Grasso, Chad Trout, The Mackisons, Kata and Trenca from NY all havent' been out yet either.  In response to HoldenCaulfield, I don't think we really lost any teams at all from last year.    A few went, but a few came so it pretty much evens out

Actually I think Williams Grove car counts will be up from last year.   Alot of weeks we had like 22 cars last year.   This year you have new guys like Ryan Taylor, Matt Campbell, Chase Dietz in the 5G, Zearfoss running the full schedule, and possibly the #44 that Chase Dietz was in because it sounds like Gobrecht wants to run Fridays.    Also, don't forget  Joe Kata and Joe Trenca from New Yor who are both shifting to 410's alot more this year and are running alot of Lincoln and Williams Grove.

I agree with you. I think in the end, everyone will be fine. It seems like every offseason, discussions inevitably shift to car counts being down or up at all the tracks and every year, things shake out and everyone does just fine. The Grove probably had the hardest time with car counts of anyone last season but like you said, there's some new blood coming in so they should be on average 4 or 5 cars better off than last season.

The weather is looking better and better every day it seems, 20% chance of rain throughout the day. I'm excited to see some Late Models on track for the first time this season, and some great 410 Sprint Racing as well!

Thanks,

Jeff.

Port should be fine the first three weeks about half of the Selinsgrove 360's have 410's this year look for Schultz,Keller,Smith,Stutz and Kissinger to run when Selinsgrove isnt running only question marks are Wolfe,Erdly and Sammons.

Lincoln might be down for few weeks as at least five from last week should go to Port, and regulars like Ross ,Wagaman,Grasso and Klinefelter are not out yet.

If weather is nice we will do the double hope Deitrich ,Hodnett and Marks try to do it.

I'm jacked up for Saturday! My 2 favorite drivers, DD & Mark Smith are attempting the Lincoln/Port double header. Guess that means I'm attending both too!! Where else in the country can a sprint car fan see 2 quality fields of cars at 2 top notch facilities on the same day!

From what I heard Erdley is back with the #98 team, Sammons is running a pretty aggressive schedule this year, and Lucas is running a similiar schedule so all three should be at Port pretty much full-time!
