For Immediate Release

(Torrance, CA, March 2, 2016) The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will open its 23rd season this Saturday night, March 5th, during the historic California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway in El Centro.  Racing will begin at 5:00 PM.

Saturday’s field will be headed by three-time and defending CLS Champion Bobby Michnowicz.  In addition to the Lomita based veteran, the remainder of the top 10 drivers in 2015 points is also expected to be on hand including second place finisher Jeffery Dyer of Fort Irwin and third place finisher Alex Grigoreas of Upland.

The CLS made two appearances at the famous track in 2015.  Michnowicz won the first a year ago this weekend during the fair and Spring Valley’s Jarrett Kramer closed the campaign with a victory on November 21st.

Michnowicz third championship in 2015 ties him with Greg Bragg for the most overall titles in series history.  Michnowicz also won on 2014 and 2012.  Bragg went back to back to back in 2000, 2001 and 2002.  To date, an amazing total of 17 different drivers have won the prestigious championship.

Pat Kelley of Chino and “Rockstar” Jon Robertson of Torrance are both expected to be on hand for their sophomore seasons in the series.  Last year Kelley narrowly edged out Robertson for “Rookie of the Year” honors.

Saturday’s race will be the first of 18 races on the schedule that is book ended by shows at El Centro.  Sandwiched in between will be eight races at the seaside Ventura Raceway, four at the Bakersfield Speedway and two each at Perris Auto Speedway and the Santa Maria Raceway.  After Saturday the next race on the schedule will be on March 19th at Bakersfield.

In addition to the exciting racing, which will include heat races, B main (if necessary) and the A main event, fans can enjoy a full day before and after the show including rides, games, livestock exhibitions, concerts and great food at the fair.
