Who the hell leaves a 3-5 foot pile of mud on the inside of the walls at a dirt track?! The announcers kept calling it a cushion. Cushion hell! It was a damn pile of mud that prevented real racing against the wall and it gobbled up equipment!

If it wouldn't have rained like it did on Thursday, the track wouldn't have been the way it was yesterday.
And no one wants to race during the day, but it's going to happen from time to time. Everyone just has to deal with it.
Every dirt track out there has to deal with weather since it is an outdoor event.
But most fans realize that.
The 'track' didn't cause this effect. The weather did.
By tonight all the excess moisture will have been worked out and the track will be more consistent.

Looks to me from a few pictures I have seen close to what the wall looks like most nights there and here is a quote from Kyle Hirst who has tons of laps there....Hats off to the track crew 2 shows in one day and not even a hint of rubber and a gnarly cushion all around the place.... and 24th to 5th in the A

Did anyone not enjoy all the racing yesterday?
Yeah, Tulare can get rutty, rough, huge cushiion etc, but it's not supposed to be easy for the Trophy Cup, that's why their slogan is "It takes Big Balls to race there"
HATS OFF TO TULARE for providing such a racy track yesterday, hope we see the same good stuff tonight

We have plenty of rain related issues with track prep here in the Midwest, as does Il, IN, OH, PA and other states. WE move the track DOWN.....not up. My point is that there was a wall of mud pushed up to the wall, not a cushion made by sprint cars at speed. Did I enjoy the racing. Only to a point. When a race track damages and destroys that many sprint cars.....the fun is gone! The first thing a quality crew does after an event is take a grader to the top and start pulling the accumulated mud away from the wall. If you've ever been to the Knoxville Nationals you'll see them doing it immediately after every night's show. Oh, and don't blame it on day racing. Watched day racing sprint cars for over 20 years back in the day. Before and during the WoO eras.

I could give a shit what Hirst says. He races there. He knows what to expect....a race track that is badly kept. Find me another track that has a mud wall like that one, built up to the outside wall BEFORE a car even hits the track. Ridiculous!

If you didn't like that, there is no hope for you. That is classic Tulare. Grow a set of balls and race hard!
Cheers!

I'm going to take a guess that you're sore Zomer hooked the cushion and got sideways while leading ending his night. He looked fast I enjoyed watching him give it his all. Also Knoxville is Knoxville this is Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway. The name says it all and the drivers love it. Put on your big girl panties and race your ass off!
Cheers!

I watched the Friday night program and the racing was excellent! Hopefully I will be able to make it down for next years T-Cup. HOWEVER. The carnage last night was pretty rediculious. Lower budget teams can't take too many nights like that before they have second thoughts about racing at a particular track... or packing it in all together.

I went last year, the Friday time trials saw 7 cars flip and more got tore up. I loved the place and the area but not much passing all three nights. Maybee I just picked a bad year to go, but I do want to come back again sometime. First time to Cali and loved it.

I guess what it boils down to is do you like a crash fest or a race. There were what? Seventy odd cars there for the Trophy Cup during the two days (three events)? Of those seventy to seventy-five, I'd bet a count of the cars that suffered damage or were nearly destroyed was close to or around thirty-five. And they weren't the "ball-less" drivers or back markers. There were many excellent well qualified drivers sucked up in the mud fence. Hell, Sheldon Haudenschild got caught up in an incedent when a soon to be lapped car got caught up in the crud. Sheldon drove onto the mud wall at about a forty-five degree angle (smilar to a hot wheel), and might have made it around the guy had the top of his wing side board not caught the top wing of the stopped car. A race track with a wall of mud that resembles the launch pad of a motorcycle speed drome does not have a normal racing cushion. A good raceable cushion makes for better racing. As far as who got caught up in it....I was not more or less dissapointed in any one driver's misfortune. I felt for every one of them. A lot of money was spent on repairs and potential earnings lost because of all the carnage.

Clarifying my number regarding damaged cars....my number is intended to be the number of instances that cars were damaged. Some had the misfortune of more than one incident over the entire event. I didn't mean for it to sound like up to 35 of the cars there.

70+ cars is the operative number. Only a couple of races get that car count all year. If drivers and car owners didn't want to race there they wouldn't show, but everyone seems to either go to the race or have it on their bucket list to run.
