I realize this is a few weeks late but did anyone besides myself get harrassed by the Knoxville police during the Nationals? It seems they were giving out tickets for anything they could find, especially to out-of-state drivers.

They've been like that all summer! I've been pulled over 3 times for "speeding" but have yet to receive a ticket. A couple other people I work with have had the same issues. 1 day in the hyvee parking lot 3 police cars had 3 people pulled over in a 10 min time frame

Been going for 25 years, the last 10 or so for an entire week. We go to the Sunday show and the Osky race, which used to be two nights. Neither me nor anyone I've ever gone with has had the first issue. Of course, we don't get drunk and raise all kinds of hell in someone else's town, or drive crazy. We simply enjoy the event and the town, obey the laws and come and go as we please. It really isn't that difficult. I'm not a non drinker, so I'm not being critical of alcohol or those who drink.

Nope, not alcohol. Knoxville police were giving tickets for seatbelt violations. I didn't see the lights and got out of the car. Had no proof ( I WAS wearing my seatbelt) and got the ticket. Of course, it will cost more to fight it than to pay it, expecially from outside Iowa. I saw 5 vehicles stopped between the stoplight and the race track, all with ouf-of-state plates.

Policing seatbelts in Knoxville isn't just a Nationals/out of state deal. I'm from Knoxville and was sitting a few cars back at a stop light today when a cop drove by and turned his head to check seatbelts in every car.

I did not see one single cop the last two years at knoxville outside of the track-now that I think of it.
That being said-they can't think of something better to worry about than seat belts? The absolute worst law ever passed in the history of mankind? I am from Illinois. Violent crimes are through the roof, our governor's punch our license plates in prison, and it seems the only thing we know how to enforce or care about is seat belt tickets. I do buckle up every time I get in the car-so I don't get a ticket. But you talk about one of the worst laws ever passed just for the simple fact of taking your right away to take care of your damned self. If you want to pass one that says everyone in a car under 18 needs a seatbelt, fine. I always thought it should be up to me--a grown ass man--whether or not I want to wear a seatbelt or a helmet on a cycle for that matter.
That discussion is for another day--I do obey the law because it is the law.

It's all about the revenue generated from visitors without taxing the locals. Two years ago I was the second car in a line of 12 or so coming into town on 14. We were all going the same speed, yet I was pulled to the side and given a speeding ticket. I always suspected the NE plate on my rental car was the reason.

Yes and tax payers like me have to pay for your quadraplegic and so forth care for the rest of your life. I have in about 25 years at nationals never been stopped by Knoxville police.

I have been going to the Knoxville Nationals since the 1980's, the Knoxville Late Model Nationals since they started, plus a handful of other events each year at Knoxville and I have never been harrassed by the Knoxville police.

I've been attending the Nationals since the 1980's also. No problems until now. Maybe I'll spend my money at Eldora in the future.

Hilarious! Thanks Meat...
Speaking of out of state plates, I am reminded of the yearly trips I'd take back to my hometown of Memphis when I was younger. My cousins would always ask me if I'd been pulled over by the cops and searched for drugs. There were two reasons for this. First, I had Texas plates on the car and lots of drugs come in through Mexico. Second, I had long hair back then. I was skeptical about what they were saying so I asked my aunt, who happened to be a Shelby county sherriff's deputy. She verified that law enforcement tended to pull over more cars from Texas, Florida, and California. Despite looking like something out of an 80s drug movie and having Texas place I was never once pulled over.
With regard to the Nationals, I've only been the last four years. I've never been pulled over by the Knoxville police though, or any of the police departments in any of the little towns we drive through getting there. Maybe the answer is in Meatbag's link? LOL

Saturday night after 410 nationals I was stopped by a Marion county deputy on Hwy 92 or 94 whatever it is on way to Osky. He clocked me for 67 in a 55. Even though I had Illinois plates and a sprint car sticker in the window he gave me a warning and said" thanks for coming to the races and please slow it down."

Bunch of dumbasses you are. Respect the Blue follow the laws and you won't have one problem. When you have sloppy drunks crossing streets , driving too damn fast past the track etc plus then the meth heads and drug use just like every other place in America . I welcome the police . They are just trying to protect myself and other people from those that for some reason just can't respect the laws or authority. Thank you Knoxville Police , Iowa State Patrol, and Marion County Police for all you do every year.

Covered about 15 Nationals and many other Knoxville shows and never ever had any kind of encounter with the Boys in Blue. I had some nights I walked after leaving the Dingus which was likely the reason I had no issues or stoppage.....

Sounds to me like a bunch of people went to the Kevin eckert school of "I'm the victim" butt hurt.
simple solution: don't speed; don't drink and drive (or participate in whatever it is that the eckert ilk do) and wear your seatbelt. The local cops have never been anything but nice to me when I've talked to them. I have also been thanked by them for being there.

No problems here! But then again I never broke any laws nor gave them any reasons to pull me over.

The Eckert comment is the funniest thing I've seen on here in a while.

Typical of dirt in ur beer to comment on this childish reply. Just can't wait to drag someone else's name through the mud. Rediculous.
