Kaeding Captures First Win With Lunstra Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- After a couple of turbulent weeks, Tim Kaeding and his Lunstra Motorsports team returned to their consistent ways over the last week as TK ran well with the World of Outlaws before picking up the team’s first win of the season Sunday night at the Huset’s Speedway.

“It was a really good week for our entire team,” Tim Kaeding said. “We got back to being consistent, and we were able to pick up our first win together which was a huge boost of confidence.”

Checking into the Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night, Kaeding got off to a quick start as he was able to time the Dammer Trucking/Folkens Bros. Trucking/Sioux Falls Ford No. 3machine in third fastest, putting him in the third row of his heat race.

From his fifth starting position, the San Jose, CA native would have his elbows up as he charged his way to finish in the second spot, before lining up in the third row for the 25-lap feature event.

Patiently working his way forward, TK would make his move around Matt Juhl on the sixth lap to take over the top spot of the race. Out in front, TK would feel pressure for the top spot on a few occasions, but was able to counter every move put on him, as he officially led laps 6-25 as he picked up Lunstra Motorsports’ first win of the 2015 season.

“It was great to get the monkey off of our back,” Kaeding said. “Dave Lunstra gives up great equipment and he deserves to win races. Now we have one down, hopefully we can start clicking them off now.”

Kaeding and company spent their week leading up to Sunday night competing with the World of Outlaws and having success. Wednesday night, the team was in action at the Granite City Speedway, and after timing in 14th fastest in time trials, TK would transfer into the feature event and grid the field in the seventh row.

With the track extremely fast after Tuesday night rain, Kaeding was one of the few drivers who was able to move forward, as he worked his way up to finish in the ninth spot, and earn KSE Hard Charger honors.

Friday night the scene shifted to the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND, and Kaeding would get off to a nice start as he timed in eighth fastest in his qualifying flight, putting him on the front row of his heat race. Having mechanical issues in his heat, TK would pull off early. Going into the night’s Last Chance Qualifier, Kaeding would grab the win and move into the feature event.

Gridding the field from the eight row for the 40-lap A Main, Kaeding again was able to charge forward as he picked up a 10th place finish, in what was his second consecutive Top-10 with the World of Outlaws.

Opting to compete in Huron, SD rather than at the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night, TK would time the Yager Ag Supply/EMI/Matt’s Repair entry in ninth fastest, and run second in heat race action to Donny Schatz.

For the third time in as many nights, Kaeding would charge his way forward with the best of the best, and pick up his third consecutive Top-10 finish with the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’.

“It was good to go out and move forward, and pick up a trio of Top-10’s with the Outlaws,’ TK added. “Yes, we want to win with those guys, but after the stretch we had, we were pleased to move forward.”

The Lunstra Motorsports team would like to thank Dammer Trucking, Folkens Bros. Trucking, Sioux Falls Ford, Yager Agriculture Supply, EMI, Matt’s Repair, Octane Ink, and Trac2Trail Arctic Cat for their support in 2015.

ON TAP: TK and the Lunstra Motorsports team will challenge the World of Outlaws on Friday night at the 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA, return to action with the NSL on Saturday night in Knoxville, IA and will look to repeat at the Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night

More on our hero

PETERSEN MEDIA- Tuning up for the Knoxville Nationals over the weekend at the I-80 Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, and Huset’s Speedway, Tim Kaeding would turn in a second place effort during the NSL’s inaugural running of the Road to Knoxville.

“We ran well in Nebraska, and had some trouble on Saturday in Knoxville, and destroyed a car on Sunday at Huset’s, so it was an up and down weekend I would say,” explained Tim Kaeding. “We couldn’t seem to get going in Knoxville, and we just got stuck in the wrong place during our heat race on Sunday night.”

Following the National Sprint League to the I-80 Speedway for a two-night show known as the Road to Knoxville, TK would charge from his 16th starting position to record a ninth place finish.

The second night would get off to a much better start for Kaeding and his Lunstra Motorsports team as he timed the Dammer Trucking/Folkens Bros. Trucking/Sioux Falls Ford No. 3 machine in sixth fastest.

Moving from fourth to third during heat race action, the San Jose, CA driver would move into the nightly redraw, where the three-pill would line him up in second row for the feature event.

With the race getting underway, Kaeding would settle into the third spot as he chased after Bryan Clauson and race leader, Danny Lasoski. A lap six restart would see TK get under Clauson for the second spot, though he would then have his hands full as the duo battled for the position for the next 15-laps with Kaeding ultimately getting the better end of the fight.

A late restart would give TK one shot at Lasoski for the race lead, but ‘The Dude’ was too good on this night, and Kaeding would hang on to the second spot at the checkers.

Finishing in the 14th spot on Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway, Kaeding would get his Sunday night off to a great start as he timed in third fastest in time trials.

Disaster would strike during heat race action however, as a pair of cars would tangle in front of TK and it would result in his machine getting airborne, and enduring a ton of damage thus ending his night.

“It certainly was not the way we wanted to end our weekend especially with us hurting a car last week,” TK added. “I have a great team, and we will all work hard to get ready for the biggest week of our season.”

ON TAP: TK and the Lunstra Motorsports team are now set for the 2015 Knoxville 360 Natioanls. Kaeding’s qualifying night is slated for Friday night, and he will be back in action for the finale on Saturday night before running in the Capitani Classic on Sunday night.
