Keoni Texeira – Never Give Up!
(Eric Arnold) July 4, 2015 - Keoni Texeira has had his ups and downs in 2015. The Five-O team lost its 305 engine before the season started after a couple of test sessions and the decision was made to put in the 360 engine for the season opener rather than rebuild the 305. So the goal for Rookie of the Year in the Knoxville Raceway 360 class was set for the driver of the Mark Christopher #50 sprint car. But this past week a huge bump in that road showed up after a nasty crash coming off of turn four on the last lap of Keoni’s heat race destroyed the car and damaged the engine in the process. Thankfully Keoni was OK but has struggled to get over the affects of a concussion this week since the crash.
“This season definitely hasn’t gone as we had planned. We knew our 360 engine wasn’t going to be as good as the top five cars out there, but we thought we would be better,” said Keoni. “We showed some good improvement and I was feeling more comfortable in the car each week.” Keoni timed a season best 13th last week.
“The new J&J chassis we bought before the season is basically used up after the crash.” I am hopeful we can get back on the track before the 360 Nationals comes up here in a few weeks. We have another car we can get together but it will depend on the engine rebuild costs. I really have to thank ButlerBuilt seats and Pyrotect Helmets for the protection they gave me. It could have been worse for sure.”
There is a campaign started by Keoni’s friends at Beaver Motorsports “Get the Hawaiian Back on the Track” to help support Keoni and to continue his dream of racing this season. You can donate at www.gofundme.com/y2jzxk and so far $1,000 has been raised! Also starting tonight at the Beaver Motorsports trailer and at the Dennison Racing trailer under the grandstands there is a limited edition koozie and window decal being sold for $5 with all the proceeds going to Keoni and the Five-O team to get him back on the track!
“I am so blessed and touched to have people that care enough to help us keep racing. I want to thank all of the fans for their support with donating money and for buying t-shirt and hats this year. I hope we can follow through and get back out there on the track. And special thanks to Deb Dennison at Dennison Racing Tee’s for being a great partner to us this year.
Keoni and the MC Racing team would also like to thank their partners: Winchester Ag, Chuck’s Corvette-Hawaii, Amsoil, DJ Safety, MPD, Studio 92 Photography, Dennison Racing Tee’s. Beaver Ohana, EA Media, and J&J Chassis, for their support. Mahalo!
