I really dont blame fans for not showing up considering that for the average fan the weather forcast was less than favorable cold and rainy out. The diehard fans would be the ones that would show up with the crappy weather and thats pretty much what we had there.

Would the Outlaws have packed the place with the same weather?

I was actually a little surprised by the crowd that they did have on Friday night. The forecast looked grim from Monday on and race day was mostly cloudy, foggy and extremely humid. Let's face it, we were really lucky to get the complete show in. I drove past McCool on my way home Saturday afternoon and it looked like there wasn't a show stopping amount of rain, but with the fog and temperature I am not surprised at all that they cancelled.
Would the WoO sprints put more fans through the gate under identical conditions? Probably, but it would have still been pretty slim and with the cost of the show, management would have lost even more money.
We saw some great racing on Friday and will be back for USAC again next year. Thank you to Eagle management for not cancelling.

5 of us traveled 4 plus hours to make the show! Wish there were more diehard racers like us!

Eagle is a bit of a mystery to me. Here's a track with seating capacity of 8500 (per track website), and is on Johnny Gibson's top 5 all time track list (so that tells me it's capable of producing good racing). Is it just the area it's in? Why doesn't it have bigger events?
If the Outlaws came back for a 2 day show and they promoted the hell out of it like they have with Devils Bowl, do you think it would be a success? Just seems like it's got some untapped potential.

There are a lot more winged sprint car fans, than non-wing fans (in the midwest anyway).

A better term would be "Great Plains".... I think Indiana is considered Midwest & its "Wingless Central"

Didn't even know it was happening (I don't consider myself a "die-hard", but I will travel to watch racing). Didn't hear anything about USAC being at Eagle in my area. Hard to attract fans if you're not trying to get them.
If they used Social Media or speciality media (Sprint Car & Midget Magazine, NSSN) for example, they only reached the die-hards. You've gotta advertise to the masses too (Omaha World Herald, DesMoines Register if you want to reach the Iowa fans).
Might have made the trip over had I known (love non-wing cars on smaller tracks). But, the track didn't advertise to get me interested.

I agree with vande, never heard about USAC being there. I have infact several years ago drove over there to watch the California guys race and the outlaws were only 35 miles away in Knoxville.

I am out of the advertising area for Eagle Raceway (near Denver CO), but I first heard about the show on USAC's website and did follow Eagle on FB and Twitter to find info about this year's race. EaglePitShackGuy did make several posts on here regarding the show early last week.
To be honest, I would have never made the 7+ hour over if I didn't already make plans to meet someone at the track for another reason. The weather forecast was horrible all week and I wasn't even sure we would get the races in until they started hotlaps. Glad I did make it, it was as fine of a race as anywhere with the crafty old veteran chaseing down and using lapped traffic to take the win away from the young(er) gun.

Darland did kinda the same thing last year at Eagle... stole a win from Justin Grant. He's the man, plain & simple!

You crazy dude! More driver skill, less "follow the leader"
I dig the traditional sprint cars, would have driven 8 hrs. to go there (on the way East) but had other things to do

The field isn't nearly as strong though.

I might disagree with that, after the heat races on Friday it looked like 4-6 drivers had a legitmate shot at the W (that you would not call an upset)....that is about the same as most Knoxville or WoO shows.
