Let's all support Tony and his racing program at the fairgrounds. Come to the meeting, ask questions, and keep sprint car racing in Des Moines!  The Racesaver series is growing. Let's be a part of the growth.

Do you have a 305? Where are you from? You are wanting to know the complete purse for the 305 series in Ohio also. Planning on running Friday at Des Moines and Saturday in Ohio?

I'd be more worried about the fact that the Fairgrounds itself has no interest in running races (they have removed all races held during the State Fair from the schedule for 2015).

IMO, the racetrack at the State Fairgrounds days are numbered (whether the State Fairgrounds Fairboard will say so publicly or not).

Agreed. At one point they moved the state fair races to the day so they could still have concerts at night. Racing does not top the agenda at the state fairgrounds. Somewhat of a shame but thats not the greatest track for racing the way it is. What happened to the talk of making it a high banked 3/8 ? Is that still in the mix?

Yes.  North Carolina and PA.  Yes.  Are you a sponsor?  Where are you from?

Iowa. Do not own a business but I do help a team by giving them cash and also paying for their methenal. Do not have or ask to have my name anywhere on the car. Hope the purses in Ohio and Des Moines pay enough to cover your travel expenses to tow from NC and Pa to race in Ohio and Iowa.

Also not a business.  Car is based in western PA and OH is not a problem.  Actually closer than some of the PA tracks.  Was checking to see if IA is the same as last year.  Seem to remember one IA 305 sprint track paying $65 to start.  Must be alot of cars in the neighborhood or alot of people like you.  It's a hobby yes.  And you won't cover expenses.  But we do have limits.  Maybe others don't.

And how would you know this?????  Tony is working real hard to make track a sucess again.  Track needs a couple big events every year but that takes someone with enough money to put up a big purse in hopes to make the money back at gate.  Maybe bring back the Gov. Cup Race with NSL or WOO 410 sprints.

The fairboard doesn't want racing they want money. How do we know. it's pretty obvious when they will come out and tell you that. Tony and the guys do try very hard to keep the track going and I for one hope it does. BUT if the fairboard will come out and say we don't make enough money charging $20 to get into the races after we hit you for 8 or 9 to get into the fair. I've been to multiple State fairs in Texas and Missouri. My personal favorite was Texas at the time any event at the fair was included with your admission. That included all concerts or PBR Rodeos or anything. The Iowa State Fairboard could care less about the racetrack.

Tony and the rest want to see it prosper.

I never said Tony wasn't working hard to make it a success (he and his partners lease the track from the Fairgrounds, it's not like they own it or operate it for the Fairboard).

I want Tony and his partners to succeed, however in the events I have attended, the program was poorly run (long breaks and ONE person to sell tickets to everyone going into the grandstand, so long lines even though total attendance couldn't have been more than 500 to maybe 750 people), got over way too late (nearly midnight), and Campbell's concessions were WAYYYYY overpriced (this is not Tony's fault, the Fairboard awards a contract to them to sell concessions, not Tony).

But, like everything else at the State Fairgrounds, it's about $$$.   If the Fairboard can create more revenue during the 10 days of the State Fair by using it for parking instead of having a racetrack in operation all year, that is what they will do.

If the fairboard truly wanted the racetrack to succeed, they would do things to help it succeed, but my observations are that they just want to collect $$$.  If Tony and his partners get bigger crowds in the next few years, I have no doubt the Fairboard will want to renegotiate their lease so they get even more $$$ for doing absolutely zero to help them succeed.

The State Fair is all about money and all vendors pay well to be part of it.Tony going with RaceSaver was the correct way to help low budget sprint racing[ if there is such a thing] survive.Too bad Knoxville is not on same page as it would benefit both.Support classes do not need $20K motors.Promoting any race track  is a thankless job.

This meeting is for competitors and interested parties right??  I don't own a 305 or have any intention of ever doing so (last I checked, I hadn't won the Powerball or Mega Millions).  My only interest is in spectating, so I could care less about the purse, rules, etc..  I only care about an efficient show where I feed I get my $$$'s worth.

I'm a fan, If they run a good show in DesMoines (timely, decent car count, good racing), I'll attend in person.  If they don't, I'll spend my $$$ elsewhere where I can get those things that matter to me (as a fan).

I"ll repeat it again incase you didn't get it the first or 2nd time:  I WANT TONY TO SUCCEED, my gut tells me the State Fairboard does not.

My question to you is this:  Why are you so negative toward anyone that gives criticism?  I only criticized the FACT that they ran a poor show when I attended.  I never said I wouldn't attend again (I'll give them a few more chances), but Tony, Don and the like are smart people, hopefully they have fixed some of those issues since the last time I attended.  if they haven't (selling tickets for example), they will keep me away (as a fan) -- You've got to be "easy to do business with", and that is both in the Pit Area and the Grandstand.

IMO, they are being set up to fail by the Fairboard itself (curfews, overpriced concessions, very poorly maintained restrooms (compared to every other restroom on the State Fairgrounds), removal of racing from teh State Fair lineup, etc..  I WANT THEM TO SUCCEED, but thus far outside of leasing the track to Tony and his group, what has the State Fairboard done to HELP THEM??
