AUSTIN SCHAEFFER 71s
Well I’m new to Hoseheads as far as posting anything but I just had to put a plug out there for one of Missouri’s own young hot shoes in the Micro Sprint wars; Austin Schaeffer. I frequent the Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex (located just 1 hour East of Kansas City just off I-70). This is home to some of the best open wheel racing around regardless the engine displacement. These young drivers are so much fun to watch and this Austin Schaeffer kid is one to keep an eye on. This young man is a race car driver…period. Always a fan favorite and always workin’ his way to the front of the pack whether it’s with the wing or without a wing it makes no difference…this is one bad hombre!
It would be awesome to see the bigger Midget and Sprint car divisions give this young man a shot.
You guys get a chance and are in the Central Missouri area on a Saturday night stop by.
I took my Son in the pits after the races a couple years ago and he insisted on stopping by Austin’s 71s pit. Austin invited my Son to get in his race car and get a picture then shook our hand and thanked us for stopping by. We left with a T-shirt and hero cards and Austin wouldn’t take a nickel for any of it.
If I had the resources I’d put this kid in a Sprint car in a “heart beat”. It would be fun to watch!

I raced at the old track at the City Park years ago. Never have time to go to the new one- I understand it's quite the facility.

Sweet Springs is a great track. The last photo does make me laugh. Why people need a hotshot rig and a fourty foot trailer to run a micro is beyond me.

Sweet Springs exit....on I=70? Every summer I stop there to check out what old cars that old guy has for sale. You know the guy with half a 56 Buick on his building, with artificial voicebox? Never have enough $$$ tho

It is an easy drive from Kansas City. The track is right behind the reginonal hospital. You cannot miss it.
Directions to SWEET SPRINGS MOTORSPORTS COMPLEX:
Take I-70 East/West to Sweet Springs Exit 66, go North 1/4 mile, Track entrance on lefthand side. If you have any questions please call (660) 335-4522.
Also, they have a very good website including thier schedule.

It's a very nice, family friendly, and laid back atmosphere and facility. When they ran Sunday nights, at the old city park track, I rarely missed a race, but when they moved to the new track, they switched to Saturday nights. Between my job schedule and competition from tracks with sprint cars on Saturday nights, I haven't been to the new track too many times. I miss the Sunday night racing.
