Just noticed on the Knoxville website that he is listed in the 2KS car and that the 47 car is not on the list. Anyone have insight on the 2KS car or what plans are for the 47?

Very pleased Don has a ride and will be racing at Knoxville. Certainly will miss the 47 car if they have decided to hang it up.

Just noticed that today and was wondering the same thing.  Hopefully the Sonner car will still be around as it would be a huge loss in Knoxville history.

The Sonner team has been at Knoxville for many years and Pittmam,Brown,Lasoski,Herrara ,Droud,Randy Anderson,Clint Garner Mackie H. all had success in the family owned car with Caseys sponsorship. They were one of the few teams that could build and repair most anything.I understand without their primary sponser they probably will not race weekly unless something changes. There is not a nicer man in the pits then Gil.The 47 has been a part of Knoxville history for a many years

Droud is driving a car that I believe Troy Renfro owns.  They bring the Casey's sponsorship with them as well that used to be with Sonner.  2015 is probably the last season for the Gil Sonner #47 team, unless funding shows up to help them.  They only plan to be at a few races this year at Knoxville, for sure the Nationals as this year will be their record 50th entry in the event.

Good luck to Don tihs year....

Looking through Knoxville's list of drivers in all classes, no one in the nation can compare to Knoxville's WEEKLY line up...yes this includes the group out east.

I think there are 16 on the driver's list (Brown, Dobmeier, Droud, Garner, Henderson, Heskin, Jeffrey, W. Johnson, Lasoski, Madsen, Maeschen, T. McCarl, Moro, Tatnell, Weuve and Zomer)  that have 410 feature wins @ Knoxville.  Plus a few others (Clauson, Bunton, RJ Johnson. Schneiderman and Selvage) that are more than capable and have been close before.

I don't think I've ever seen the field for weekly races this stout in my lifetime.

I think this will be a good move for Droud. He wasnt competitive in the 47 car for the last couple of years yet he is competitive usually in his own cars. Hope to see him towards the front this year!

Drouds best years were in the Burch 1B .If I remember he was on front row of Nationals and crashed hard in first corner. He is easy on equiptment and could still win.I think he has been in the 47 for a few years and they do have good equiptment.Don has been around for several years and I would guess he is well over 50. The number of cars that you just bring your helmet are getting fewer.

This is from IBRACN website:

NEW TEAM - DROUD, JR.

2/25/2015

FACT - (2-25-15 @ 11:20 pm EST) - Since there is a post on Hoseheads message board about Don Droud, Jr., it is time to release the information about his 2015 plans. As you know, Droud left the Gil Sonner #47 that he has driven for the past several years. A new team has formed and Droud is the new driver. Droud, Jr. will be in a car owned by Troy Renfro with Casey's General Store as the sponsor. Casey's left the Sonner team for the #2 car. The team is looking for more sponsorship to increase their schedule with the NSL and other area 410 races. The RUMOR part of this story is that I'm hearing long time car owner Larry Woodward is playing some role with this team as well. Woodward and Renfro have a long relationship together when Johnny Herrera drove for the team several years ago.

Don Droud, Jr. Will be running his Dare 2 Race team when not in the Renfro #2. The Dare 2 race team is Don's 360 team that he has raced in and around Nebraska for the past several years. Also, he owns his own midget as well as drives the Smith #44 midget. He will have a pretty busy year again in 2015.

I remember watching Don was in the 1BK car back in the 90's & early 2000's. He held the 1 lap track record @ Knoxville in 1998 for a few years too.

Was the problem at the 47 car, Donnie Sonner, or Don Droud Jr?  Time will tell.  Droud needs to pull a no excuse tour out of his ass, hike up his pretty boy skirt, and drive the fucking wheels off that thing. Don't fall in love with Droud Jr, Renfro.  If he can't cut it after four races, shit can him and move on.  Way to much talent looking for rides.

I find it very difficult to believe that Casey's has left the Sonner Team (especially since the Casey's sponsorship on that car has always come from Don Lamberti (not the Company funds)).

As I recall, Droud and Sonner's both knew of Don's departure last season,

As foir Hellofit's 2nd ever post......well, who do you consider better talent that is rideless in the midwest??

No disrespect for DDJr. Great Driver, and great person.  Just my way of trying to fire them up. We all know the list of great drivers that have left the penalty box, and have gone on to have great success.  I am hoping DDJr. will be one of those drivers. A list of drivers for you Vande77.  Billy Alley, Johnny Herrara, Tim Kaeding, Jac Haudenschild, Jason Meyers, Jeff Swindell.  360 drivers that I would like to see given the chance to drive 410's.  Joe Beaver, Jon Agan, Jack Dover, RJ Johnson, Jonathan Cornell, Russ Hall, Nate Van Haften, Tony Schilling, Matt Covington, and Greg Baker.  I know alot of these drivers currently have rides,  but gauranteed they would park their rides for a chance to drive a Kville. The best part of going to Knoxville last year, was watching Garner kick ass.  I know this boils down to not enough 410 owners, and would not expect, Mr. Renfro to put an unproven driver in the car.

R J  Johnson ran the 71a in the 410 class at Knoxville all last season. If you think he is a 360 driver that you would like to see get a chance in a 410 you must not see very many races at Knoxville.

Hellofit, you seem to be talking out both sides.

First post, "...pull a no excuse tour out of his ass, hike up his pretty boy skirt..." Second post, "Great driver, and great person."

Your first post questions whether Droud may have really been the issue with the 47 car. Then in your second post you call the car itself a "penalty box".

No to mention his "best part of last year being watch Garner kick ass".  Don't remember that happening either.

Obvious the guy doesn't go to the races, and he must be looking at results from the 360 division in 2012.
