Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (August 23, 2007) – Following his disqualification in last Friday night's American Sprint Car Series Northern Plains Region event at Minnesota's Jackson Speedway, Chuck Swenson has been suspended from all ASCS-sanctioned events until January 1, 2008.
Following his apparent victory in the August 17 Jackson Nationals preliminary feature event, post-race inspection revealed that Swenson's cylinder heads had been altered well beyond the parameters defined in the ASCS rulebook. Swenson's engine, including the tampered cylinder heads, came out of the shop of Ohio's Charlie Fisher.
Swenson declined further tear-down of the engine, thus leading to the suspension for the rest of the year by the American Sprint Car Series.
While it was Swenson's first violation in ASCS-sanctioned competition, it wasn't the first time the Watertown, SD, racer has run afoul of post-race inspectors. Similar violations were detected following last year's Tournament of Champions at Knoxville, IA, an event not sanctioned by ASCS. That set of illegal heads, also out of Charlie Fisher's shop, found Swenson stripped of perhaps the biggest win of his career.
This latest infraction, resulting in a suspension from all ASCS events for the balance of the 2007 season, will also prove costly for Swenson.
Swenson had been leading ASCS Northern Plains Region points entering last weekend's Jackson Nationals. He now surrenders any chance to claim a second consecutive series championship.
In addition, Swenson will miss out on several major late-season events including the ASCS/Wesmar Challenge at Devil's Bowl Speedway on October 13, which offers up a Wesmar Racing Engine to the overall winner, as well as the $20,000-to-win Short Track Nationals at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway on October 25-27.

Kudos to ASCS for this move and hopefully it will show other drivers that there will be harsh penalites if you, or anybody affiliated with your team, do not follow the rules.

What happens to all of these altered heads?
Who ends up with them?
Is it possible that this kind of stuff is rampant and Chuck is a whipping post to reign it in a little?

wasnt Jeffs engine he used at the ditch last weekend an open motor if so they are not down that much on horsepower as what a ascs 360 would be maybe 750 or so for an open compared to 650 or so on an ascs if so 100 HP is not that big a difference so it makes his win not as big a deal as before as he was probably able to flat foot it all the way around compared to having to play with the throttle like he would have had to with a 410

That's funny, although I'm not sure if you're talking about the guy with 399 posts or the guy with 1386.

The scarry part of it is, some people take me serious when I am really pulling their leg.
I do have 2 pet peeves however.
1. People who think they must be a THIEF (cheat) to win.
2. People who really think that they should be able to turn a profit in the racing game with the purse money they aquire.
I think the counter must be broken also, just a measley 1400 posts, I really need to get more garbage on the net.

This is my post from David Smith's forum. I didn't feel like typin up a new one.
The Good: Great job to ASCS for putting their foot down on this sort of thing. Too many do it and get away with it and to tell a points leader and reigning champ to hit the road sends the right message.
The Bad : Did ascs really have to mention Charlie Fisher in this deal? That seems in extremely POOR TASTE as that guy is just operating a business and was only delivering what the client asked and paid for. Charlie Fisher is not bound by ASCS rules..........he doesn't race. Chuck Swenson does. Chuck Swenson is bound by ASCS rules. Customers go to an engine builder and tell them what they want......it's not the engine builders place to make a driver follow the rules. He could advise it for sure. But it's just not his place. All an engine builder does is build what his customer wants and is paying for. Unless he or his shop is a title sponsor for that particular race series he doesn't have to build motors to their specifications. If a customer wants an illegal motor.......then that is exactly what he will get. Charlie Fisher is running a business.........and he or his business doesn't have to answer to ASCS. Why Charlie Fisher's name is being slandered for building what a customer wanted is BS. That illegal motor is ALL on Swenson. So if someone can answer it.........what purpose does it serve to mention Charlie Fisher's name?
The Ugly: This kinda implies Swenson was illegal for the last full year - and probably all of last season as well en route to his Northern Plains title. That looks pretty bad.
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a

This is true that it all falls on swenson. However, nobody put a gun to Fisher's head and said "give me cheater heads". He very easlily could have said "I would rather not be associated with doing that", but he made his choice.
If a guy goes into a pawn shop and says "I need a gun to rob a bank with" and the guy sells it to him knowing that it's wrong, isn't it kind of the same thing?

Let's see- an illegal motor RELIABLE AND ON TIME enough to go after a championship. That's two positives out of three. I doubt Charlie Fisher will lose business over this.

I agree with OKCFan12. No need for the multiple mentions on the engine builder. This ASCS release was in very poor taste. I have no problem with them enforcing the rules and suspending violators, but to delibratly try and hurt a businessman is uncalled for. Perhaps because the builder is considered an outsider by not being a local is the reason. I kind of wonder if the engine came from one of their sponsors (Wesmar) if it would have been mentioned twice in the release. Hum:!!! Me wonders if that could have something to do with it.

Here's my half sideways slant offering no facts, only an imagination and never meeting any involved.
Charlie Fisher has a history of building all types of high quality race engines. You name it, from 4 cylinder midget to 600 ci. mountain motors. If it has a crankshaft he can build it.Chuck Swenson is one customer able to order and buy any motor Charlie Fisher builds.
As many other traveling sprint teams, its likely Swenson owns or is supplied more than one motor and these are likely built with different specs (open 360, ASCS 360). Team Swenson decides what high quality Charlie Fisher product to mount in their race car and if the teams ASCS 360 had developed a problem it could come down to the simple decision of race or sit out.
Possible?
