Man, it looks like you were standing on the race track when you took that. I always admire someone who can do something extremely well. Especially when it is something I can not do well.

The dirt in the background looks as much in focus as the racecar does! You have some real talent and a great understanding of lenses and everything else need to take great action pictures.

Wish the pics I take of the cars sitting still in the pits looked that good.

Please tell your family that I will gladly pick-up the trash indefinitely when you, uh.... depart Smile

Great shots!

70-300mm lens with a monopod through the fabric of the fence.  The focal point at the glass of the lens is a tiny dot and it expands as it gains distance.  If I shoot through the openings in the fence the lense doesn't see the fabric.  I have to steady the lens with my thumb to make sure it doesn't move up and down or side to side.  I've been getting this shot for years at several tracks that have the right setup for it.  Sometimes I stand up in the tierd parking and use a 1.4x extender to get around 450mm out of the lense or I'll use my fixed 500mm.  It depends on the time of year and and how cloudy it is whether i do this or not.  I look at the spots inside and outside the tracks and check the forecast to see what kind of cloud cover we've got.  Sometimes if it's cloudy I can't get this shot but that kind of day is a good opportunity to get the side shots like this one during hotlaps and time trials.  I don't like limiting it to the same old stand in the infield and bang away routine everyone else does.

The Balog shot was taken standing on the grassy runoff up past the wall and panning them.  I can keep a close eye on one car during TT and it's only a few feet to the left to put a second wall, fence and telelphone pole between me and the car.  I'd never stand in this spot during a race.

Outstanding!

I have often wondered when I see the same photog standing in the same spot taking photos of the same cars every week at Knoxville. How many times do they need to take the same picture?
