Its unbearably aweful. Knoxville is the capital, best of the best, on track and off. Im not seeing, or should i say, hearing, that as it relates to the weekly announcing. Its to a point where im turning down the audio on the Cushion and turning up the KNIA KRLS App with Jamie Brockman. Even though it doesnt sync timing wise, its better and with a lot more excitement And knowledge. The in house announcing sounds like those 90's in studio voice overs of previously recorded/ tape delayed races. Too quiet and forced excitement, when even at all. Sorry boys, i know you've been off a few weeks and  im sure you're trying and are quite prepared but it's not coming across. I'm trying to be constructively critical, not meaning to make any personal attacks. The historic half mile, aside from the 305s, isn't a place to start the career, its where the best migrate to. When spending $15 and 4hrs of time, i enjoy a polished production with the best there is to offer.

Last night was bad. Beyond bad. Between not knowing how to say drivers names, hearing people in the background telling them who is driving what car, not being able to follow more than one thing on the track at a time causing them to not even notice changes in position towards the front until two laps later when they happen to look at the timing and scoring, to the epic side by side battle between Henderson and Madsen coming out of 4 for the checkers with Madsen taking the win (actually, Madsen was beside a lap car and Henderson was 8-10 car lengths in front of them). Oh, and also the caution for that piece of metal on the track that we arent quite sure where it came from (how about the car that is driving around without a nose wing). These guys are obviously broadcasters, but are far from race announcers. They need to stick to basketball, baseball, football, etc. where the pace is a bit slower. I can't believe these guys are actually getting paid to do this!?!?!?!

I am on my knees, begging Knoxville Raceway to do whatever you need to do for Mr. Johnny Gibson to announce the Nationals!!! Also, Mr. Shawn Neisteadt would be a great partner right beside him. Somebody who grew up around sprint car racing and knows who these drivers are from all over the country. He did a fantastic job at the JSTS shows this week!!!

Last night was the first time I have ever heard an announcer ask the fans stand at the start of a sprint car race. The only way that makes sense is if he thought it was the parade lap

Hot Rod use to call races at Knoxville on the old Hosehead radio. He would make an excellent announcer down there. He has an incredible passion for racing and it shows on the mic.

Hot Rod would be great. Please don't tell me these two are going to be announcing the biggest sprint car race of the year!?!?!?

Sorry to be negative, but Knoxville has to do something about this.  I'm sure they are working hard and trying their best, but last night was embarrassing.  Besides the huge issues noted already there are a thousand smaller things that are just bad.  Terrible.  Using the same 3 sayings 100 times... like "shot out of a cannon", "rockets down the backstretch", and "get's on the loud pedal".  Guys, come on.  It's one thing to use cliches...it's another to use them 10 times per race.

And the little things.  Saying two guys are battling for 3rd, when it's actually for 5th, saying a driver has charged all the way up to 7th when he started 7th, screaming they almost banged wheels when they weren't even close to touching, or saying the track is really racing....i think you meant racy.  Or the countless times they miss Driver X pass Driver Y, but catch it after the pass and then say Driver Y who just got passed is running down Driver X who just passed him.... and usaully indicating it's for the wrong position.  Oh god you could go on and on.

I think the PA went out because someone got tired of listening to the comedy of errors.  Too bad they fixed it.

Certainly someone will come on here and say if you think its so easy do it yourself.  I couldn't do it, nor would I want to... but that doesn't change the fact that these guys can't either.  Knoxville needs to hire some pros.

Please invite Zoch and Bockhoven to join Johnny Gibson to do the Nationals.  PLEASE.

While I think the announcing needs improvement, let's remember the facts:

Bokhovan quit. He's on doing other things. So, it's partially his fault to quit mid season leaving them scrambling to fill his spot, which must be tough in the middle of the season.

Announcing is not easy to do. It takes a certain person and time.

I remember Bokhovan wasn't so good 20 years ago when he started, but he got better with experience. He's probably one of the best in the country, but he QUIT.

So, what's the solution? He's not coming back... His ego won't let him!

90+ sprint cars (if you consider 305's as sprint cars) and we are bitching about the announcer? #spoiled

305's are the herpes of sprint cars

What else would you consider the 305s? Back in the day when the 410s were running low 17s did you not consider them sprint cars? #ignorant

My name is Kyle Luetters and I am one of the new announcers at the Knoxville Raceway this season. This past weekend was my second evening in the booth at the legendary half mile oval.

I am aware that we have had numerous issues when it comes to the announcers booth. I sincerely apologize and I will not make excuses.

Simply put, we need to get better to deliver the outstanding performance that you have come to expect and deserve at the Knoxville Raceway.

I do believe that part of this will rectify itself with the passage of time. Being more familiar with things (drivers, names, the crowd, etc. etc.) will put us more at ease.

However, there are other issues, like the ones mentioned above, that must be addressed and I appreciate them being pointed out. It allows us to work on how to improve things so they do not happen again. During the course of a race night, the program moves so quickly that we do not get much of a chance to dwell on mistakes.

That being said, if there are any other issues or things you, the fans, would like to see us do, please let me know either on this thread or you can reach me by e-mail at [email protected].

The Knoxville Raceway has a very special place in my heart and being asked to contribute there is a high honor. I can only ask for your ideas, constructive criticism and patience as we work the bugs out in the booth.

Thanks,

Kyle Luetters

In my opinion, Kyle's already a step ahead of the game simply by having the stones to make that post and sign his name. (I still think sprint car message boards would be a MUCH better place if users were required to post their name, phone number, and picture.)

I'm still in AWE that I was given the opportunity to make my announcing debut (thanks again Bobby Gerould, Carlton Reimers, and Ted Johnson) with the world's premiere sprint car series.   I'm sure I sucked the first year(s) (some will obviously say I still do), but by working 100 or so shows a year right from the start, I gained DECADES of "local track" experience in a very short time.

Having worked with Kyle before, I'm certain he'll put in the time/effort required to become more familiar with the car/driver combinations he's seeing.  The rainouts don't help, and no matter how many hours you spend memorizing names/numbers/colors, there's nothing that prepares you for picking the car out at speed on the track.

Looking forward to working with you and Kris at Nationals. . .
