With Danica Patrick still struggling in NASCAR, could she be headed back to open-wheel racing as one of the drivers for her boss, Gene Haas, who will launch a North Carolina-based Formula One team in 2016?
That question was posed to Haas Saturday afternoon following qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, and while he sounded intrigued by the possibility, he also sounded as though it would be unlikely to actually happen.
Asked if Patrick would be a good candidate for the Haas Formula One team, Haas said, "I think she would. I think she would. She would bring an awful lot of viewership. I think it would be great for America. I think she would be a great candidate."
Haas then quickly added, "Whether that's going to happen or not ... that's, that's, that's ... you know I think that's kind of a long shot there, too."
Right now, Haas is building his Formula One operations in an industrial park in Kannapolis, N.C., adjacent to Stewart-Haas Racing, the NASCAR Sprint Cup team he owns with three-time series champion Tony Stewart.
Haas had hoped to launch his Formula One team in 2015, but recently said he was pushing back the start to 2016.
In the Verizon IndyCar Series, Patrick posted one victory and seven top-three finishes in 115 races from 2005-11. In the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, she has two top-10 finishes in 59 starts, with her best result a seventh-place run at Kansas Speedway last month.

What about the 20 cars that finish behind her every week? Will they go to F1 also?

Maybe, if they carry the clout to bring in the enormous funding that she does....

There are only 7 drivers that have started every race behind Manica, who is currently 28th in points.

Do you really think she would want to put herself into a position to fail miserable when she's finally getting to the point where she's not running into everyone as often while getting paid a bundle for performing less than mediocrity? She might be a lot of different things to a lot of people, but she's no dummy.

Driving ability means little when landing a ride in just about any top tier series. "TV Viewership" and sponsor exposure means everything. Never forget that.

Her finishes in Formula One would be a whole lot better because there aren't as many cars entered in each race! She could go from average finishes in the high 20s to average finishes in the low 20s!

The OP has a creepy obsession with Danica Patrick in that nearly post every he makes on here is about her, except when he's droning on about Kyle Larson. Gee, I can't understand why Danica has the huge sponsorship backing she does when more people talk about her than anyone else in the series.

Isn't F1 one of the very few remaining series that actually hires drivers based on ability to perform instead of driver provided funding? Hell over achieving drivers from other roadracing series around the globe get paid pretty nice salaries when they get hired as TEST drivers for an F1 team. Can you imagine if Hamilton or Vettle showed up to a meeting and heard " We would love to keep you in a car next year, you have done a great job for us, but unless you can find us 142 million dollars worth of extra funding next year we will be forced to replace you with a kid whos dad is the CEO of SONY.
I know back in the day, in the Lauda vs Hunt days, buying your way into a seat happened. It's how Lauda got his first F1 ride and Hunt basically had a sugar daddy that got him in a car. But both those guys performed and earned their way into high profile rides so it isn't the same thing.
Of course...a start-up team from the U.S. with no manufaturer support could very well be the team that re-introduces buy a ride to the current F1 system.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

there are feeder series for F1 available...and I understand a license is required.
from Wiki
Most F1 drivers start in kart racing competitions, and then come up through traditional European single seater series like Formula Ford and Formula Renault to Formula 3, and finally the GP2 Series. GP2 started in 2005, replacing Formula 3000, which itself had replaced Formula Two as the last major stepping-stone into F1. Most champions from this level graduate into F1, but 2006 GP2 champion Lewis Hamilton became the first F2, F3000 or GP2 champion to win the Formula One driver's title in 2008.[63] Drivers are not required to have competed at this level before entering Formula One. British F3 has supplied many F1 drivers, with champions including Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna and Mika Häkkinen having moved straight from that series to Formula One. More rarely a driver may be picked from an even lower level, as was the case with 2007 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen, who went straight from Formula Renault to F1.
American Championship Car Racing has also contributed to the Formula One grid with mixed results. CART Champions Mario Andretti and Jacques Villeneuve became F1 World Champions, while Juan Pablo Montoya won seven races in F1. Other CART (also known as ChampCar) Champions, like Michael Andretti and Alessandro Zanardi won no races in F1. Other drivers have taken different paths to F1; Damon Hill raced motorbikes, and Michael Schumacher raced in sports cars, albeit after climbing through the junior single seater ranks. Current F1 driver Paul di Resta raced in DTM until he was signed with Force India in 2011. To race, however, the driver must hold an FIA Super Licence–ensuring that the driver has the requisite skills, and will not therefore be a danger to others. Some drivers have not had the license when first signed to a F1 team; Räikkönen received the license despite having only 23 car races to his credit.
