I just want to know how many tracks have pay to park for a weekly show. Knoxville and the wonderful promoter there sprung this on us this weekend. I will say not all of the fairgrounds was pay to park....and before you all say well just park there where it`s free. I just want to know if this is something that is normal for your local tracks for a weekly show.

The reason behind this was " I have to pay the purse some how" those are his words not mine.

If people weren't willing to pay it, they wouldn't have it.
In years past, the paid parking area was "sold out" before 6:00 PM. So they expanded it and people are still willing to pay it, until they don't have people willing to pay, the pay to park area will continue to expand.
I find it comical how people complain about paying to park @ the races, yet don't bat an eye when they have to pay $7 to pay to park @ the Iowa Events Center or their parking fee is included in their ticket price @ Iowa Speedway.

In an era where you would think you would do everything you can to get more"butts" in the seats,,,let's charge an extra 5 dollars to park. Most of the places I have went that charge to park have sell outs or near sell outs at their events.

I find it comical that you have more than 5 fingers on 1 hand...ie talking about Knoxville races starting on time. I am just waiting for them to start charging me to walk onto the fairgrounds. Do they want us at the races or not I spend alot of money in that town all summer long. Unlike you that think their the only game in town there are other places to go. You defend Knoxville Raceway like they can walk on water...open your eyes and look around and get your nose out of the fair boards a**.

If paying to park gets you that excited, and you feel is to high, park one-two blocks away park for free plus you'll get some exercise in for the 30 seconds of walking time.
I think Vandy makes a valid point, if there are cars there, people are willing to pay, so why not charge.

Your off the subject already this ain`t about me. I asked if this was normal for weekly shows...but if you want to make this about me then bring your weak a** on. I am not the only one that think`s this is BS. Come on down to the north campground and I will show you what the people think.

And you can still park for FREE on the grounds behind turn 3 too.
Remember, they are running a BUSINESS, not a charity.
And no, not every event is "sold out" at the Iowa Events Center either yet they still charge $7 to park your car no matter what (even the Energy games that average maybe 1500 fans).
Are there things I wish the Fairboard and raceway would do differently? Of course there are, but being anonymous on a message board does ZERO to change minds or decisions. Go attend a Fairboard meeting and voice your displeasure and your voice will be heard (they may not agree with you, but unless you go to one you are just "white noise").
I highly doubt they'll change their parking fees as there are people/fans that will pay it (like I stated earlier, they always "sold out" their pay to park lot and had to tell people they were sold out and turn away $$$ that people were willing to give them).
It amazes me that people on this message board must only ever attend the races and never attend any other type of sporting event anywhere all year long.
I've been to an Iowa Wild Game, Iowa Energy Game, Iowa Barnstormers Game and I-Cubs within the past year. Each one of those is CONSIDERABLY more expensive than a night at the races (tickets to attend are comparable, but they all charge to park ($7) and the concessions at the othes are DOUBLE what you pay @ Knoxville.
I guess Knoxville is just supposed to let you park for FREE anywhere and everywhere because it's always been that way.
Until 3 years ago they always had fountain soda too and now it's all bottled.
They used to have draft beer and now it's all cans.
They used to have just dirt/mud under the grandstands and now it's all concrete.
They used to have a wooden grandstand and now it's all aluminum.
Times change, businesses have to change with them or go out of business. If charging to park (for those willing to pay it) keeps the doors open and the ticket prices and concessions reasonable I'm OK with it.

Pay parking was between highway 14 and the ticket office behind the grandstand up to Dyer Hudson and the ticket office.
Suiteholder parking was on the west side of Dyer Hudson and the Bingley building.
Handicapped parking was on the South side of Dyer Hudson (I believe they moved it closer to the concourse this year, but it is now paid lots (made no sense that just because you have a handicap sticker (people "borrowed" tags from truely handicapped people to park close) that you had to park farther away than those that didn't and it also made no sense that they parked for free while others paid to park. They don't differentiate at any other venue, everyone pays.

I don'r remember using Iowa Events center in my statement of places I go, nor Iowa Speedway. But I do go to Missouri Tigers football and basketball and don't pay to park. Have been to St. Louis Cardinals games and do pay to park. Have been to several concerts that have been sold out for months and,,,don't pay to park. Parking on the grounds that you own, imo, is just grabbing more money from the weekly crowd.
How bout this idea,,business 101
20 cars 2 people in a car @15 $ a ticket =600 + 5 dollars to park = a total of 700
or 23 cars 2 people in a car and no parking =690
which is the better scenerio

So you go to MU events and park right next to the stadium without paying? BS same goes for every other thing you mentioned in your message. You might get free parking just like there is available in Knoxville but it sure isn't right next to the venue either. If you want to park close pay $5 if saving $5 is more important that how close you park then you can walk a little more.

You have got to be kidding... are you that blind to what the fairboard is telling you...telling you because you don`t have a thought of your own. Yes...everybody knows it`s a business and not a charity. Your OK with it because they tell you your OK with it.
