Personally, I was not a fan of Bokhoven.

I had to work last night so I'm out of the loop. Is Tony not announcing this year? I always thought he did a great job. Kept us well informed and entertained between races and an awesome job calling the race. Hope he is still there.

Tony will be there BUT he has several TV deal that pay way better than a Sat. night at Knoxville so he's going to take advantage of those opportunities..

come on guys, this is a hard job. You have to develope over time. You have to learn to keep talking about something to keep things going. The new guy will get better and better. You try this some time. It is not easy.

He can't be worse than Blake Anderson right? He's painful. And this is coming from someone who has to listen to Bruce Ellis and Shawn Brouse every week.
I'm a big Bokhoven fan, love Brian Liskai in Ohio and Wayne Harper at Lincoln. And Gibson trumps all. But hey I guess it's all about preference.

And I'm sure you'll let him know if he doesn't.... Why don't you get up there and show him how?

There are better announcers out there then who you mentioned , at Perris for one but its all about personal preference , I for one can't stand Johnny Gibson , knowledgable yes , but annoying to me , its the same stick over and over again . And the previous announcer at Knoxville , now the magazine editor of Flat Out ( Justin Zoch ) was good .

It doesn't matter who it is, send them to Williams Grove on a Friday night, no matter how bad they are, they have got to be better than Bruce Ellis. Talk about painful!

I thought he did great personally. He sounds like he BELONGS on the PA as opposed to Tony B. who is IMO over the top and recycles the same material over and over and over (kinda like Johnny Gibson does - they are great for newbies, but they irritate most hard-core fans as they've heard it all before over and over and over and over and over and over).
Does the new guy need more work? Yes, but I remember Justin Zoch's first night and he wasn't nearly as good as this guy and improved every week. Blake Anderson is still a better announcer than Tony B. will ever be (he just had ZERO experience with sprint cars when he was hired).
Tony has been a fan since he was a kid and then got into announcing (so the knowledge was there, he just had to learn to announce). The others know how to announce, they just need to gain the knowledge about the drivers and cars).
Would you rather have Whitey back on the mic????

Not terrible for his first night. Hard too judge someone harshly their first night on the job. Hopefully he will improve by the end of the year.

Hopefully Bokhoven does the nationals so I get the "Let's Gooooooooooooooooooooo Racing." intro. Heck I say that at every event I go to now.

Bruce is a great announcer but the guy that does the super sportsmen is the best.

If you're talking about Kris Krug, he is realitively new to annoucing in general and definitely new to booth annoucing (having done some pitside reporting last year).......I've known his family for years and watched him grow up around the sport having raced karts himself for years and watching his cousins race late models and ARCA........he's a great kid, with a broadcast degree (something most of us don't have), and a passion for racing....although I've never heard him announce, I 'm sure given some time, he'll do fine...........when I first started back in 92, my second call was the WOO at I-80 Speedway (pre Johnny Gibson days) plenty nervous for sure, but they were great guys to work with............welcome to the club Kris.............................Stan Cisar, Eagle Raceway/ASCS Midwest Announcer

How can you bash someone after the first night on the job? He'll be just fine. If you could put the tenderloin down long enough to call a heat race I'd like to see it. For years Knoxville has been spoiled with the best announcers in the business. Looks like the same idiots who bashed Blake just finished eating their crow in time for Kris.

For the life of Super Chuck, he's never understood the Bokhoven detractors. Super Chuck appreciates a knowlegeable announcer who knows how to fill in the downtime, which Tony does well. You Knoxville folks need to leave the porch every once in a while and you'll understand just how good you have it. Super Chuck had to sit through a night in Fargo where the announcer called Sammy "Jeff Swinnn-dle", called Jeff Swindell "Jeff Shep-herd" and Stevie Smith "Stevie Swinnn-dle". Tour regulars at the time and he couldn't even get the names right.
And to think, at the time there was some long-haired-hippy-lookin-dude with a golden voice trolling through the grandstands "Programs! Get your World of Outlaws programs!" Ole Ted figured it out soon enough and gave Johnny a shot behind the mic. In Super Chuck's opinions, still stands as one of the best decisions he made.
As a person who occasionally does some public speaking, it's much easier to sit on your arse, crunch on your chicken bites and sip on a cold beer than to get up in the box and give it a go. Don't believe it? Put down the keyboard and give it a shot.
Super Chuck

This is the reason I rarely read this message board anymore. I thought Kris did great for his first night. He has worked hard all winter to prepare, to know all the drivers, cars, sponsors, etc. If anyone thinks they can do better, send in an audition to the track.
