What up all... Thinking about heading out to Williams Grove for the National Open. I haven't been there for fifteen years or so since I was a kid and need a little advice so I may throughly enjoy myself if I decide to head out. Where to sit, frontstretch, bankstretch, turn 3? Camping? or hotel? Not too much information on Williams Grove's website... Keep in mind I may have my 72 year old grandfather with me. Thanks for the advice and pointers!!

When I go to the Grove I always go in the infield. Usually there's room in there no matter where you are. Another option for you.

Then don't go to Williams Grove, they only have obstructed views... :/

Opinions may vary...

Watch that 72 year old grandfather stuff.  Three of the four in our group at the National will be 72 year old grandfathers.  The youngster of the group will be a 63 year old grandfather.  We'll be on the front stretch, the back stretch, Beer Hill, the infield,  infield pits,   crossing the bridge, and back pits.  Talk with your grandfather and ask him what he wants to do.  We were fortunate enough to go with our fathers but not our grandfathers.  Do it for him.  It's " the Grove."

I can see the whole track from my seats on the front stretch, but I have reserved seating so its pretty high.  If I were you, I would keep your eyes open closer to time for the reserved outlaw seating which goes the row right below ours.  Good seating, and great people sit around there.  Great camping atmosphere if youre into that, but if not then I recommend a hotel.

I am from Ohio also and me and my nephew went to the National Open the year before last. We stayed at the Country Inn & Suites in Mechansburg, 4943 Gettysburg Road, 717-796-0300. It is only about 15 minutes from the grove. We really liked this hotel and it was reasonable. There is a nice diner close by and Moes Bar that had some really good wings. We get to the track early and park real close to the epntrance by the first turn.  as soon as they opend the gates we walk up in the grandstand and leave a couple of stadium chairs right below the reserve seats (best general admission seat you can get) and we could see the whole track real good. We would then go back out to the car and take a couple of folding chairs into the infield in the first turn with our coolers. Very easy to walk from there back up to our seats in the stands when we want. Not much walking involved for grandpa doing it this way. Highly recommend a trip to the Eastern Area Auto museum that is close to the track on Saturday to kill some time. If all goes well will be joining you this year.

+1 You'll definitely want to get reserved seats in advance. You can see the track pretty well from the frontstretch if you're up high enough.

Been to the Kings Royal in 2001, 2012, 2013

Have to be in Buffalo NY on Saturday morning, so the Kings Royal just doesnt fit into the schedule this year
