Great night of racing from the heats through the main. If there's a better format for sprint car racing, I haven't seen it.

How does the biggest hyped race of the year always deliver  Smile , and Saturday is always BETTER with a full inversion.

Track was pretty, slow and tricky, but to my surprise the leadeers never caught traffic (guess everyone in the main was fast).  I've been to many races there when the leaders caught traffic in 5 laps.

So who is going to win the big show tonight, Larson Kaeding, Myers. or even Gravel if he can find a motor to last.  Tim's the craziest in traffic, Larson always finds a new groove to win, and Myers is smooth, consistent and can also step on the gas pedal when needed.  It's a toss up, but Tulare seems tailor made for Tim.  It might come down to who doesn't have a problem.

Except for the qualifying problem. Some very fast cars where in the NQ races because they drew a late number. 81 cars is a lot to qualify and be fair to all. Would rather see two two heats per driver with passing points second heat inverted then the mains.

Gravel's motor let go on the last lap and TK won by .003 of a second.

Nope he was supposed to be in the Sanders 17 but for some reason the seat opened up earlier this week and was not filled. No clue what the reason was.

96 cars entered, 81 were there, so 15 no shows for various reasons.  No problem, 81 was plenty, and Make-A-Wish gets all the entry fees, including the no shows.

At the green Larson went backwards a couple of spots, then once he figured out the high side of turn two, it was on! There were guys high siding turn four all night but ones that figured out turn two really made ground. Meyers was a Badass in his heat race running the high side.  I'll pick Larson, but getting by TK, if he has to, will be tuff.

Anyone have the points after night one? Thanks

Qualfiying this year was not a level playing ground  if you went out late.

Just a crazy thought, run two groups for qualifying.  the first 40 are their own group, and the other 40 their own group.  Not perfect, but sure more fair than what happened last night.  In years past, I thought the track held up better for qualifying.  This year they started real early, and from the get go the track seemed to lose grip quickly.  The announcers even mentioned times were dropping off in hot laps, not a good sign if you drew a high number.

However the track prep after qualifying made for a pretty good track (unless you were in one of the non-qualifier heat races).  Than the track was pretty narrow.  If they had started out the night with that kind of track, qualifying might have been more fair.

Does anyone think the overall winner will not be decided among these three  Larson, T Kaeding, or Myers.  Besides having the most points now, they are also the best when it comes to traffic and passing especially at the Thunderowl (other than maybe Allard, but he had a late DNF which killed his chances.  But who knows what will happen tonight.  Maybe a surprise winner?

Top 5:  TK 180, Larson 177.5, Meyers 175.5, Bud Keading 169.5, Gravel 167. That's all I have at the moment.

Best race in the country.  But they need 2days of qualifying.  Advantage of early pill draw. Too many cars for one night of qualifying.

AMEN!!! After abut the 20th car it started getting slower.

What a feature!!!  Gravel from the pole and got nipped by TK at the line by .003 of a second.  If they have this on video I would suggest you buy it.  Fun night and I got to see many I had not seen in about five years.

I was planning on staying for tonight but run out of "gas" as I guess I am not as far along in the healing process from my recent cancer surgery as what I thought.

Most of the "hired guns" who came west didn't do too well.
