(June 18th, 2013, Cliff Morgan, Ventura Raceway) OXNARD, CA - Saturday night June 22, Ventura Raceway continues its 2013 VRA season with a full program of VRA Sprints, VRA Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Mod Lites, Go Karts and Quads at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility. We are looking forward to another night of exciting open wheel racing that will keep you on the edge of your seats all evening.
Troy Rutherford will be back to go for three feature wins in a row. Since he returned to Ventura Raceway on June 1 and took the 30 lap feature win he has been a dominant force in the competition. Once again Saturday he will be challenged by all the rest of the outstanding VRA Sprint Car drivers who will be going all out to make 2013 their year to shine. Other drivers expected to compete are Greg Taylor, who has finished second to Rutherford the past two races, 2012 series champion Kyle Smith, John Nock, 2013 point leader Tom Hendricks, Guy Woodward, Rick Hendrix, Richard Ortega and many others. These drivers will thrill you as they compete in 10 lap heat races, semi mains when needed and a 30 lap feature.
In IMCA Modified competition the season has seen Josh Vogt dominate the racing with six wins in the seven races held so far. The only race he did not win was the May 18th race, which he missed due to a family vacation. On that night Austin Rodarte took the win. Saturday night he will be going for another win against point leader Jack Parker, Robbie Witwer, the Rodarte brothers Austin and Aaron, Brad Prows, Dennis Eckert and several others.
VRA Dwarf Cars will be racing in two divisions, Seniors and Pros. Point leaders Johnny Conley in Pros and Mike Neal in Seniors will lead their groups into competition this weekend. They will run heats and 20 lap feature events. These downsized sedans, coupes and trucks have provided great competition over the past several races.
Point leader and last race winner, Ricky Lewis will be going for another win in the VRA Mod Lite Class against Dave Dotson, Jeffrey Fry and the others in this growing class of modified racers.
VRA Flat Track Quads will be here racing in two divisions, Open and Sportsman. Point leaders Danny Elderbaum and last race winner Kyle Eurto in the Open division and Robert Peterson in Sportsman will be going all out to continue their season long point battle with the rest of the competitors in their respective divisions.
VRA Go Karts are back with point leader, Matt Jones trying to improve his season points lead over Cody Nigh, Justin Raper, Kenny Byers Jr, Dylan Ito and the rest of the kart racers who battle nose to tail around Ventura's 1/5 mile clay oval.
Pit gates open at 12 noon with spectator gates opening at 3:00PM. Preliminary action gets under way at 3:30 with racing at 5:30. Admission for this event is $15.00 for adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors with Kids 12 and under free with an adult admission.
