Just wondering if there is a penalty or a BELT awarded for punching another driver on the racetrack during a race? or is it only frowned upon if there is violence in the pits? Just my two cents but i think mitchel running over and punching on another driver was unsporstman like and shameful. Its not like he never causes wrecks . As a matter of fact when was the last time he finished a race? What he did was weak and the fact that no body has said anything about it baffles me

It was a very bad move on his part. Even with the yellow flag out the cars could be doing close to 50 MPH. A track official had to run out on the track to control the situation risking his health and life also.

I have been going to the races for many years and I have never seen anything like what Mitchell did. He punched Marcus at least 10 times in the head (helmet), I couldn"t beleve what I was seeing! Weren't they team mates last year in the 360's Pretty sure it was Marcus that was involved if not I appologize.

Nice to be a hockey fan, cause a little dustup is no big deal! If you have watched reality shows they have to gin up anger to make things interesting. That was real emotion on the track. Back in the 50's at Pines Speedway in Mass. we'd have at least one fight if not more on Sat. nite. Remember, that fight between Allison and Yarbrough turned NASCAR into a major TV attraction.

As Scott said "a hockey game has broken out on the main straight".

There was, IIRC, a trailer race at Irwindale about 2-years ago and an offical told the drivers to "create some excitment". Well, near the end of the race driver-1 took out driver-2 and they both came to a stop in turn one of the 1/3 mile. Driver-2, who is a man of some size, got out of his car and walked over to the car of driver-1 and proceded to deliver about 10 solid blows to driver-1 head and helmet as he was still sitting behind the wheel, then casually walked away. No harm, no foul, no blood.

WEAK Move Period. Matt should have squared up with this other driver face to face. Ass whooping or not he would have still had a fan in me.

What's the point of punching someone who's wearing a helmet? You just wind up looking like a moron and accomplish nothing.....

Agreed. Matt apparently took a few boxing lessons from Daniel Ponce de Leon. Next time, keep it in the ring and make it equal.

Trouble is that on this message board there are to many drivers that are untouchable. Say anything at all about some of the elite, and you'll get swarmed by the masses.

Or if you say anything that might be a little critical of USAC with half the people on this site working for them...well you get my drift ... OK, only a 1/4 LOL

You know BIG FISH ,,,,, saying anything against almighty USAC may be a little ""CRITICAL "" ,,,,,,THAT is just bull shit. !!!!!! USAC needs to handle this situation with firm conviction ,,,,, I pay my money to see a SPRINT CAR RACE,,,,,, not fighting,,, YA,,, some times it will happen,,,,, While I was a USAC official ,,,, I had to deal with a fight or two,, shit happens,,, But Sprint car racing is about PROFESSIONAL racing . ,,,,,,,,, not waiting for a fight to break out,,,, again if you want to see a fight,,,,, stay home and watch HBO ,,,,,, $14;95 ,,,,,, or tune into the next NASCAR race,,, Ya NASCAR almost has a fight every race ,,,,,,,, the problem with NASCAR is that they have a bunch of young brat drivers that don"t have a enough talent to keep them selves from from causing a incident with a veteran driver,,,,,sure it happens with the veteran drivers also., but they don"t fight over it , they will just open there mouth about it on live TV . ,,,, now that I enjoy . ,,,,,,,,,USAC DOES NOT NEED THE REPUTATION OF WHAT NASCAR HAS. ,,,,, To me NASCAR has gone down hill in there fan base across the board. sure the economy doesn't help the matter.,,,,,,, You want to see grass roots , the best in auto racing,,,,, that will be Open wheel Sprint car racing. ,,,, It doesn't get any better than this. ,,,,,, Any one that shows up at a Sprint car race to see if a fight will break out . ,,,, than they are not a true Sprint car fan. ,,,,,, ZZ ,,,, AND OF COURSE------- STAY THIRSTY,,, MY FRIENDS,,,,,,,RBW

First off not a fan boy of Matt nor do I dislike him.

I've watched Niemla race for awhile with VRA, USAC 360 and now CRA. To say he is exciting is an understatement, HOWEVER I WOULD NOT TRUST RACING WITH HIM, as he can be very wild and drive over the cars, tracks, or his own ability many times. In a word, he can be scary to race with especially when he is running the cushion no matter if its Ventura, Tulare and now Perris.

Many people bitch when a driver pays back another driver on the track, because 1. it's dangerous 2. Expensive and time consuming to fix damaged race cars. Having an altercation with two drivers going at it, might be better off the track than on. Or do you prefer Matt crashing Marcus on the track at Perris versus throwing a few soft punches to get his appoint across.

I don't condone what Matt did, not the best form of character to throw punches when a driver is strapped in, but when is it a good time to have a fight at the race track, in the pits when all the crews fight and the drivers never really talk.

I think Marcus now knows how upset matt was (and guessing a few other drivers too). Will Marcus ease up a little, I doubt it from my experience watching him the last few years. I'm not sure if Marcus has even had his bell rung yet (other than Matt's punches wink

What should USAC do, I HAVE NO IDEA. The dreaded fine wink and probation.

Guessing Matt is getting tired of crashing (or most cases getting crashed). I have even seen Matt going to the darkside, ie putting on a wing and racing with the World of Outlaws. Sure hope Matt stays topless with CRA. With Damion, Bernal, Cory, Matt, Marcus, Cardey etc the season should be interesting to say the least. It seems like a few drivers are already testy with each other, and we have only run two races at the PAS. Should be a fun year as a fan, but might be expensive for the car owners and lots of work for the crews.

It sucks you have to wait almost a whole month to see these guys go at it again at in So Cal (Perris). Guessing Marcus will skip AZ and Matt might be racing at Hanford and Perris with a wing?

Have at it boys - might be a good slogan so far

Oh the glass is still half full for me BIGFISH, what can I say. I just wish I was there to hear Scott call it! I bet that night of racing probably won't be forgotten anytime soon. Good thing for us is no one is untouchable behind the protection of a keyboard and fake names like Duckslayer, and I don't work for USAC. Guess that means I can say what I want right? Unfortunately I don't have much to say, I actually hold a positive opinion of USAC. Right or wrong it's my opinion. When I hear a driver got out of his car to smack someone else down I smile, but I don't really have much to say other than I wish I was there; and I wonder if the guy had it coming. Who knows.

I was critical of drivers on this site, namely the Kyle Larsen wreckem and win it Daytona race; but I read everyone's posts. I see point of views that are not my own as good information. But I won't be critical of any sprint car driver being pissed off enough to let another guy know about it right then and there. I am looking forward to the Yuma weekend very much, can't wait! And in the spirit of true keyboard freedom, I will sign my name this time... Enjoy the races this weekend gang.

Ha, James why are you telling me who the duckslayer is? I've know you for some time now and what your handle is... Hey, and why didn't you watch the stream? If you had you would have heard what Scott said.

See ya in Yuma duckkiller.
