- i know racing was alot better when pitpasses were 10 bucks than it is with them at 30
-i know racing was alot better when faster "better" drivers didnt start on the front. now you cannot pay them to start on the back
- i know racing was alot better when tracks were tacky and fast. dry tracks only benefit mediocre racers and tire companies
-i know racing was alot better when there were no tire rules
- i know racing was better when there were no wings
-i know racing was better when there were "promoters" instead of "operators"
- i know racing was better before there were 12 classes of cars
- i know racing was better when there was a race car on every corner on Saturday afternoons
- i know racing was better when there werent 3 or more tracks running the same classes on the same night located less than a few hours from each other
-i know racing was better when the cars were hand-lettered and not decals and one color
- i know racing was better when parts came from garages and machine shops instead of catalogs
-i know racing was better when traveling groups ran 40 or 50 lap features and did not cut laps to get home quicker
- i know racing is better now because of fuel bladders
- i know these arent the only problems and there are many differed opinions and these are just mine.more as i think of them, feel free to add your own thoughts

Have heard a lot of racers say that they actually preferred tire rules that limited expense. Otherwise, most of that list looks good.

Agree with a lot of this besides #3. Dry slick is a drivers track. Doesn't take a lot to stand on the gas on a tacky track. Takes real ability to finesse a car in the slick. Every great driver I see on dirt always shines on a slick track. Slick sepetates the great drivers and the mediocre drivers. The great ones are way out front. The mediocre ones are usually well behind and wanting traction control

Yah I gotta chime in on the dry slick deal , any idiot with a big motor and deep pockets can hold it on the floor and drive in circles!! It takes someone with finess and knowledge to make things happen on a slick track , yah sprint cars may not be the greatest cars to watch on slick but still the better drivers find the traction and make it look natural . But you put 20 full body cars or mods on slick and that's badass slidejobs ppl finding lines high , low and everywhere in between . It's may be a little slower but a lot more exiting to me .
winners dont cry when they lose , they go back to the
drawing board and come back for round 2 !

I've gotta agree with Chapa and Jorski about the dry slick. Although, as a photographer now, I like the cars sideways and throwin' mud. For instance, This one.
I agree with the OP on many of the others tho. Especially the inverted starts and 12 classes with 8 cars each. "Back in my day" (groan), there were 40 to 70 cars in a class. When you started last in the heat, made the A, started on the back and won, you could say you did something. Now, the points leader starts in the middle of an 8 car a and wins. Whopee.
I just don't understand the thinking behind all the classes. It dilutes the prize money, but worse, it dilutes the glory, which is why we race.

You All should come check out I-44 Riverside Speedway. High point earners start on the back of heats and features. Slick tracks 98% of the time. Wing and non wing classes. More really good drivers in one class than most tracks have in the pits.

i guess my biggest gripe about dry tracks is when they are blowing huge roostertails of dust in hotlaps and then the heat races are like watching a freight train go by....i like passin. i like when the track is dry on the bottom and there is a big ol cushion and some guy mid pack ventures up there and starts passin cars. dry tracks are okay then....

Now, now, lets not gripe about how many cars are in a class. You may be told you know nothing about racing and asked to personally call a promotor and complain.

BTW that post was made in good, positive humor. Don't anyone get all twisted up about it.
As a fan, I like the fast, sucked down, tacky tracks. I love to hear a guy flat foot it around a track at over 100mph. As a driver, I could see the dry slick tracks being more fun though.

Hope you don't see that at Kellyville tonight. That would only happen with a stuck throttle. I may be at Kellyville. Say hi if you see me.

Saw Cheese, Wescoe and OKCFan at Creek last night. No stuck throttles but it was some good racing.

I was creeping through the photo galleries on Hoseheads and ran accross a gallery from "Rusty". Man, oh man, those pictures are a gold mine! I wish I had been living around here then to see the "good old days'. I hope we don't look back in another 20 years and think these are the "good old days!"
