FIRST JOHNNY KEY CLASSIC QUALIFIER ON TAP FOR FRIDAY
AT OCEAN
WATSONVILLE,
CALIFORNIA (June 27, 2012) – Fremont's Shane Golobic, who leads the Ocean Sprints presented by
Taco Bravo standings, will look to make his first 2012 win a big one as drivers
in Friday night's competition will race for a starting position in the Johnny
Key Classic at Ocean Speedway Watsonville.
Friday's
Johnny Key Classic qualifier feature winner will earn a starting position in
the $10,000 to win DDNi Johnny Key Classic held on August 25. This is the first of four qualifying events
leading up to the Key which will also award automatic starting bids to the two
highest drivers in the series standings not yet locked in.
Golobic not
only would like to get a win to lock himself in the Key, but he also needs a
victory to fend off the red hot charge of 2011 series champion Ronnie Day of
Salinas. Day, in the Keith Day Trucking
#22, has overcome blown engines and shop theft to score three victories this
season. A victory on Friday night would
place Day in the drivers seat to possibly win his second Key in a row.
Day's
recent charge has narrowed the points gap to just a nine point advantage for
Golobic who drives Steve Osborne's #9J.
Running
third in the standings and also winless is "Mr. Consistency" Brad
Furr of Stockton, CA.Furr has only one DNF this season after seven races. Rounding out the top-five in the standings is
Kurt Nelson of Gilroy and San Martin's "Cowboy"
Craig Smith.
The balance
of the top-ten in the standings includes San Jose's Ryan Rusconi, Salinas' Carter Train, San Jose's Wayne Katen, Corralitos' Jerry
Bonnema, and San Jose's Nick Green. Salinas' Jason Chisum is the top rookie in
11th.
Other race
winners in 2012 that are likely to appear on Friday for a chance at a Key berth
include 2010 series champion Tommy Tarlton, with two wins, and single race
winners Brent Kaeding and Bud Kaeding.
Friday's
races for the Ocean Sprints will also include racing for the American Stocks,
Dwarf Cars, Micro 600s, and Sport Mods.Adult
tickets are just $17 with seniors 65+ $15 and kids ages 6-12 are $13. The family pass for two adults and two children
is value priced at just $55.Qualifying
will get underway at 6 p.m. with fan gates opening at 4:30
p.m.

Golobic had them covered, but broke a bolt in the steering, had to pull off.

That's a pretty strong accusation being it was lap 14 of 30.. I was there and the way it looked to me is when Tarlton started pressuring golobic for the lead on 2 different occasions golobic by himself hit the wall in turn 2 which then the car broke. The only reason I even write this was because you said "he had them covered" a little premature to say the least

Your boy Tommy even said he felt it was Shane's night. Nothing premature about that.

My boy? Ok. He didn't say he "felt" it was Shane's night, he said....
"You know the 9j (Golobic) was fast," Tarlton said. "It was getting ready to be a crazy race for the fans and I was thinking it was going to be his turn tonight. He caught the wall there in lapped traffic and gave us the lead."
I agree that Shane was fast. But I simply said that By YOU saying he had them covered only 14 laps into it was a little premature! So let me simplify it for you so you have NO confusion on what I'm saying... A race isn't over til it's over! Plain and simple! False accusations don't Win races!

Watched the video last night. After passing Tarlton Golobic twice pulled out to a straight away
lead. The bolt holding the left steering arm to the drag link broke causing him to hit the wall.
Tarton only once got close to him when he slowed up to lap Carter Train. Goracin what race were you watching? You make it sound like Tarton was putting pressure on him and that caused him
to hit the wall. Having a straight away lead and driving away looks to me like he had them covered.

Once again you have shown that you have no clue when it comes to sprintcar racing....not only did he get close he almost had the pass complete if not for a lapped car....a straight away lead please when he crashed Tarlton was right there.. I'm Gunna go out on a limb here and say that it was because of the pressures that he put on him is why he hit the wall and broke.... ps it was lap 14 so how can you morons say he had them covered......I'm not so much a fan of Tarlton but I will call it the way I see it....ohhhh yeah who got the win.......

Dude why you gettin mad.....why don't you just shut up and let someone have their opinion....just cause you dont agree with it.....i think i have seen someone post that somewhere???? It is a FACT that the steering bolt broke..and when he hit the wall he hit with the rear of the car....kind of hard to break the steering bolt that way...so your idea that the so called " pressure" that you say he was putting on him caused his problem is wrong.....now was he going to win..who knows??..but i do know he started behind Tarlton and passed him...and looked pretty fast.... I will leave it at that...

I didn't state my opinion, I just described what the video showed. As for me having no clue when it
comes to sprint car racing Keepinitreal, I'm known by everyone on this board. My car has won
Golden State, Civil War, Taco Bravo races and been on the podium with the Outlaws. Once again the
bolt broke holding the ty rod to the left steering arm and he hit the wall in the middle of the straight
away not coming out of turn 2. The video showed he had a straight away lead when this happened,
argue with the video.
