Elk City and Amarillo Tracks Set to Host NCRA Sport Mods This Weekend!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – June 18, 2012 - After a year hiatus the I-40 West two race series is back and will take place this coming weekend as the Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products southern sport modified division head to Elk City Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma on Friday night before making their annual jaunt to Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas on Saturday night.
With new ownership for the 2012 race season the Elk City Speedway is back after not being picked up for the 2011 race season. Donnie Raney and Willie Smith won events held in 2009 while former series champion Todd Decker and the most recent series feature winner at the speedway, Robert Elliott, picked up feature victories at the Western Oklahoma facility back in 2010. Smith is the tracks current weekly division point's leader.
For the third straight year the tour will make a single appearance at Bill Worthen's beautiful West Texas speed plant where local veteran Kelly Cross has tamed the locals and the touring regulars at Route 66 Motor Speedway.
Decker holds a slim fifteen point advantage over two-time and defending tour champion Chad McNamara. Travis Johnson is third in points, just 45 points out. Rookie of the year contender Caleb Edwards sits fourth in the point standings while Joe Adams currently sits in the fifth position.
Drivers rounding out the top ten in the point standings who are expected to compete include Brandon Smith, Ross McCartney, Kevin Snow, Bobby McGehee, and rookie Craig Ridgway.
Tour regulars and other drivers expected to compete include J.D. and Kyle Choate, Kevin Dickson, Chris Lyons, Deterding, Cleo Adams, Courtney McCartney, Mark Harrison, Landon Maddox and Tim Ford.
So far through the first three events that have been completed on the 2012 race season, 62 different drivers from three states have competed in at least one event. The average car count through the first three races that have been completed is 35 with the highest coming at Enid Speedway (40) and the lowest (31) at the Salina High Banks. Thirty-four cars showed up at 81 Speedway for the season opener back in April.
Elk City Speedway gates will open at 6:00 pm on Friday night with racing slated for an 8:00 pm start time. Track is located off of I-40 at Merritt Rd. (exit 34). Go half mile north then half mile west. Track entrance is located on the South side of the road.
On Saturday night at Route 66 Motor Speedway gates will open at 5:00 pm with a 7:00 pm race start time. The Speedway is located 1 1/2 miles south of Interstate 40 on Lakeside in Amarillo. For more race and ticket information, contact the speedway (806) 383-0375.
