depending on how far gone they are you can polish them with a cotton color buff or stitched cotton wheel. youll need a straight shaft grinder/buffer with some balls to it. I not very dull use green jewelers rouge ,if quite dull use stainless rouge. If you use the stainless rouge clean out buff after use then color wheel out with the green. When finished wipe out wheel with soft clothe to get abrasive out.To maintain shine wax the wheel with the best wax you can get ur hands on. It wont hurt to do it 2 or 3 times .

use some buffing compound (its a paste) buff it then throw flour in the wheel buff it again to get the rest of the compound out. Safety Kleen used to have some stuff to do it with.

spray them with aluminum brightener (phosphoric acid) and then rinse thoroughly with water first. Make sure the wheel is dry before applying the acid and then let the acid sit until it's boiling white before rinsing.
Aluminum is so soft it is easy to trap dirt within and it's difficult to polish it out. The acid cleans the wheel and will make the polishing process 1,000 times easier. You won't need a buffer for wheels. They're soft enough to do by hand.
The greatest knowledge is to know that you know nothing
at all.

ya thats EZ when you just buy new ones! , pretty sure Todd dosent let them put old bent, chipped , crappy lookn things on that car, lol, anyway, I picked up some compounds from the local Menards, im going to try someday, watched a couple vids on youtube to try get some ideas from , I strongly recomend taking a few minutes on there and type in how to polish aluminum , I found one trucker outfit that polished a fueltank seemed to be the best info so far for a large item to polish . I would assume it would work on any size item?.

since were on the topic, who does and doesnt care for the black wheels? I figure most the old timers hate them blackouts , I too hated them but its taken a while and thier starting to grow on me, a car with bright paint or bright highlights actually are starting to look kinda nice? I remember when I started racing black wheels ment you were bad a$$ "stay away from the guy whith the black wheels, he doesnt care about his wheels!!" lol .. the old nascar painted wheels to match body color i liked i remember the Countrytime Lemonade car that was a nice looking ride, how about Red Bull I thought I heard once the rear wheels were suppose to be red to match the body, I just thought it was two different color wheels and they didnt care? huh, interesting.

What I learned at the Tournament of Roses parade years ago....after you have the aluminum cleaned up and polished and shiny then get you a soft cloth, today its micro fiber, and a pan with some buttermilk and rub the whole shiny surface with the butter milk and hose it off let it dry and then you will get a music instrument quality shine, now this really works on brass and works on aluminum too until the the first warm up session ,forgot to add after you let it dry light buffing or hand polishing again then some wax.Why don't racetracks put in a wash bay or two they could keep the dirt there, instead of in your trailer and keep the water too....earlier reader talked about adding flour ,corn starch works too, keep this up we will be baking sprint car biscuits.
