When I was younger these two tracks helped a lot of racers get there start. I was able to make the one in Lawton once but not the one here in OKC.

MacArthur Park Speedway, why did that little race track that was there close when it did? Who were some of the guys who raced there growing up?

Also, Faxon Speedway in South Lawton seemed perfect and I thought always had really good car counts. Went there once when I first met my wife back in 1989 or 1990 I believe. Why did it close?

Just pondering questions.

I remember racing over @ MacArthur Park, that was a great place to get started.

I went to Macarthur park at least once. The go cart track was very popular long after the dirt traack closed.

Don't know why Faxon closed, but I hear Lupe built his house right on top of it

I know Darryl Cleveland, Wooley, Carol and Greg Wade all raced minis at MacArthur Park BITD. Think they were the first ones in town with a water slide, too.

Cleveland can definitely tell you all about MacArthur Park. It's only about a mile from his shop.

And yes, the house is build on top of the old Faxon track. I've got a picture of it I'll post as soon as I can find it. It's a shame it closed. We really like racing there.

I won a 150 lap mini stock race in Mike and Jerry Morrison's Toyota in about 105 degree heat. Hardest race I ever ran. If I hadn't been leading, I think I would have pulled out. In front of about 150 fans who didn't like me because I bumped a purple Scirrocco who had cut me off about 25 times. After the race I pulled into the infield, got out and laid on the ground awhile. I remember MacArthur Park. Went there many times, to the oval and go kart track. Does anyone remember the Speedway motorcycle track? I can't remember exactly where it was but it might have been on down from MacArthur Park.

Was by the former Faxon track several months ago on Hwy.36 and it is leveled off and I believe Lupi's house sits where track once was, they had a Drag Strip next to it and it finally deteriroated enough that they have leveled it as well.

The Faxon Speedway sign still stands out by Hwy 36.

Why it closed is probably why they all close , was not making money.

The speedway track was on Council, I believe? Limestone Run was the name of it, think Trey Jorski was the track champion? Cool stuff, wish they still ran those bikes here. You coming to the reunion, Mike?

I went to a big mini mod race at macarthur park once, they had about 150 cars, all same class, didn't have 5 or 6 classes as they do now. First time i saw mini mods was on a hill on waterlou road, no stands just a track. Greg Cherry, Jack Moltan some of the ones there.

Ya I go by there on my way to Maniau where my in-laws live. I knew there were little, if any, remains. Just was wondering the reasoning as to the closers.

This has been some good reading ya'll. Thanks!

I think Lupi got burned out and was just running the faxon track to pay off the land at the end around 94/95. We started racing there in 1988 and I think he had been running the track a couple years by that time. They started racing the minsprints in Lawton somewhere else on the east side of Lawton before that. He had a big Multi Cylinder Nationals race at the end of the year with cars there from several states. We thought big things were coming. But the next year he was done. John Griswold tried to run the track the next year, but kinda of screwed it up. Track was closed in 1996 and we went asphalt racing...

I seem to remember someone trying to run faxon one more time after it closed in 1996. We had moved on so don't remember the details clearly. Anybody else remember that?

They raced speedway bikes on ice at the Myriad (or whatever it's called now) and the arena at the fairgrounds, too! You and your dad need to come to the reunion on March 4.
