Brian,

Thanks for sharing this video with us. This series was a great one for midget racing in our area, before the Chili Bowl, and the SMRS.

Great memories here! The best race I ever saw was this series of a different year. It might have been the previous year. It was very hot making it misery for the long event. There was one VW that was a top contender that early in the feature started "clanking" like the sound of a hammer hitting an anvil. It also was shooting a 4 foot blue flame out the exhaust. I thought for sure it had blown it's gasket or a bearing going out and the piston making contact with the head. He started getting competition from 3 others one was Gene Genneten. For quite a few laps all 4 cars had the lead during each lap. The track was as rough as I ever saw, but those drivers didn't let that stop them. That rough sounding midget from Denver started acting better, and at the end was normal acting and won. I was always impressed with Genneten as a driver and this race was as good as I ever saw. I was impressed with the winning car and went to see it finding the intake runners iced up with thick deposits of frozen humidity aided by the Alcohol I'm sure.
