I grew up in the sixties in Northern Cal, but I don't believe my Dad ever took me to West Capital. He did take me to Roseville to watch the mods. I watched Guys like Larry Burton (pictured above), Wally Baker, and Jimmy Gordon (my Dad worked for Jack Gordon Ford at about that time). They left some great memories, so much so that I have my own Jalopy style mod that I race

This one is only 42 seconds long, wish it was more. The car that is flipping, is an original Edmunds super. Bet that hurt!

I remember Gary Patterson racing and Wally had a brother named Mel that raced as well. It's been awhile since I've been there, but that West Capital site has alot good info. I remember one night at Roseville they brought in some full bodied cars (57 Chevies and Fords) and I thought they were the ugliest things I had ever seen. As an adult the full bodied cars looks better, but the Mods still have my heart!

Learning right along with you. I don't think it was, I was under the impression it was 1/4 mile.

West Capital Raceway (Capital Speedway) was primarily run as a 1/4 mile, but had a big 1/2 mile also sharing the front straightaway. The 1/2 mile was traditionally run 1 or 2 times a year for special events but it involved removing the turn 4 and turn 1 banks of the 1/4 mile track. I only saw about 4 events on the 1/2 at West Capital, they were nothing special for me, but the 1/4 track was a special place!

I only saw West Capital once, it was 1979, I was crewman for a WoO team. TINY.....probably the smallest track I ever saw sprints run on.....we were amazed at how much stagger we needed.
1/4 mile might be giving it too much credit.
