I am a big NorCal fan but man, they got smoked at Placerville. The draw didn't help as it seemed the ASCS national drivers seemed to draw top 4 spots while the local "guns" were deep in the field... but I hear it's a random draw.

I have never been a fan of the draw as I perfer quals. Regardless, I still can't beleive after the NorCal dominance at Kings & Tulare earlier this year.... the locals were hardly in the top 10 each night.

Maybe these 360 ASCS National drivers are decent afer all......lol.

drove up to placerville from orange co friday back down to perris for sat had a good racing weekend and scheduling is still a problem in this state. placerville could have had my money for both days and perris had about 5 to 10 guys that would have pulled out there 410s or 360s and halled down to perris instead of santa maria which were both USAC events and made the show that much better . but atleast i was watching sprint cars racing in these rough times ty all .

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Format, nothing more? I don't think so. This was the first time a lot of these guys every raced Placerville and they beat down the Ca boys. I was there and the skill level of Wayne Johnson, Shane Stewart, Brady Bacon, Jason Johnson, Gary Wright and Tim Crawley was very impressive. Just check out mylaps.com for their laps times. There's always some luck and certainly Tk's pill draws and Allard getting punted by Hirst in the heat killed their chances. No one here was complaining about the format at the Tulare and Hanford races when it benefited the Ca boys. I was very surprised by these results and would have never predicted no Ca driver in the top four either night. So give the travelers their due this weekend. Luck rather than skill, I don't think so.

For those who are struggling to understand what I wrote here is the long form version.

Drivers like Shane Stewart, Johnny Herrera, Jason Johnson, Brady Bacon, Gary Wright and Wayne Johnson to name a few are world class racers. They, if given a front row pill draw, will be as tough to pass as anyone in professional sprint car racing. Now combine those guys, plus various other fast traveler's, with our top talent you will have a tough ass field of cars to move through from deep in the field.

If you have a system that can draw a car into lousy starting spots all night and then draw top traveling talent to up front starting spots, the top drawing spots are most likely going to win when all other factors (talent, crews, cars) being equal. Sean Becker, Andy Forsberg, TK or JA starting on the front row at Placerville would be just as likely to win. Hell even the announcer kept saying on the first nights broadcast that whichever spectator kid drew the best number for the drivers starting spots in the A main was probably picking the winner of the damn race. Over and over he said it. He was right. Then they do the bullshit deal of locking in the top finishing spots from Friday into Saturdays show and you have yourselves one nice steamy pile of shit format.

Tulare and Hanford were single day events and thus had no lock in garbage. To be fair some top drivers were'nt present. I feel confident saying though that it would'nt have mattered much cause those guys pretty much all show up for Trophy Cup at Tulare and well we know who is tops at that race. I cant say that I remember any ASCS National guys going from 24th to 1st at the Trophy Cup!

I look at it like this, current score: ASCS National 2- Cali 2, overall that aint bad at all and since there will only ever be one 1st time for anything, I like that our guys took the 1st ASCS National races in California.

360's are a good show for the money. I like the idea of the passing points of ASCS but qualify them and award points for it, then invert the heats based on qualifying points awarding passing points, then line up the A main directly from those points (NO REDRAW) and transfer B main at back exactly how they finish the B Main. etc.

I think the track prep.was the key. dry slick is what the ascs drivers are race on must of the time. local drivers usually run on wetter heaver tracks.

On Saturday the two drivers that earned their way into the redraw were Jeff Swindell and Tim Crawley. Both went from 6th to 2nd so no front row starting spot there. On Friday the high point guy was Sean Becker going from 8th to 2nd. Granted there was a crash that helped as well.. He just did not have any luck on the redraw. Jon Allard went from 5th to 2nd. The bottom line is the ASCS format rewards hard driving in the heats. The best drivers and teams will find thier way to the front. The bottom line is our NorCal guys got beat on our home turf. Tip you hat to Wayne Johnson and team and hope they come back next year, so we can have another shot at them.

Placerville is almost always dry and dusty, so there was no advantage to the travlers at this track. They were just better, surprisingly.

Draw for starting spot, run two heat races each, (passing points and points where you finish) and line them staight up for the main... make it simple.. and give the fans more racing.

I"d like to throw a shout out to Greg Decaires for an awesome run in a new ride.....he had some tough luck on friday but bounced back witha 7 th place finish on Sat. and was looking good and proved he can still wheel a racecar.....Allard had some crapy luck both nights...being punted by Kyle didn't help matters....Kyle had no luck either as he didn't do well.....S. Allard..well....glad to see Rod's car there....Becker ran well just not as good as hoped...Forsberg didn't do sh$t...but atleast he showed up on Sat. after running Chico on Fri. in which iy didn't look like he ran good there either...

Good show...but as usual it was dusty as hell...all the ASCS boys showed they are the best 360 drivers in the country....Hope they go to Chico and Calistoga next year..

maybe a better title for this thread would've been NorCal gets dusted.

I thought our local drivers faired pretty well considering most have full time weekly jobs. Hard to be on top of your game racing 15 times a year,against Hired shoes who get 15 races a month.

But it is what it is, and I enjoyed it!

But all in all even through the dust Friday that was a great race, he sliders for the lead were awesome!

Saturday proved to be an almost perfectly prepared track for both fans and drivers alike.

That weekend of racing is what brings us back week after week.
