"I'd rather be lucky than good", were the words spoken by Whit Gastineau in victory lane at Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada, Oklahoma, Saturday night July 9th. Whit would pick up his fifth victory in OCRS competition this season by leading the first twenty-four laps only to slip up in turn one after taking the white flag and losing the lead coming out of turn two to a hard charging Gary Owens-33. Whit however would be fortunate as Owens would enter turn three, where a car about to be lapped would blow a radiator hose in front of the leaders and Owens was unable to keep his car from spinning out in the fluid laid down on the racing surface. Whit kept his car under him and would go on and take the checkered flag for win number five.
The night would start out with Whit-2W and Beau-51 both being in the same Heat Race with Whit starting 8th and Beau starting 6th, Whit would finish 2nd, while Beau would fall back to 9th. Whit would be the high point and would be the first to make his draw for starting position in the Dash, where he would luck out and draw the pole position and would then finish the dash in 2nd place giving him the outside front row starting position for the ‘A’ Feature. Meanwhile, Beau would start 11th in the ‘B’ Feature and would finish 6th, just one position out of transferring to the ‘A’ Feature.
Whit’s win would make his third in a row at the Oklahoma Sports Park. Up next is a trip to the Outlaw Motor Speedway near Muskogee, Oklahoma Friday night July 15th.
