Big J Report Presented by DeBerg Concrete

17 410s

Welcome Mat
Paul McMahan and the Roth Motorsports/KKR #83 drive overnight from Dodge City to do some Sunday racing while Shane Stewart is back to try and grab victory #2 on the year. Danny Heskin also looks to pop his Huset’s cherry by signing in for the very first time in the Layton #19. Paul Jeffrey is back States-side to join is brother and is driving the 4K.

MIA
Chad Meyer, Logan Forler, Scott Winters, Jacob Ossenfort

VIP
Savage and Lil Wayne himself make the trek up from the fields of Northwest Iowa, along with dragging Little J to the track for a rare appearance. The following were too tan attend: Bosma24, DeBerg, The Champ, and Justin Boese Entertainment. Pre-race festivities included a stop for a cold one at 212, and a commencing in the parking lot at the track for the honorary pre-race drink, a Lunch Box.

Time Trials
After an hour of dicking around trying to pack in the heaviest, sloppiest, wet track, McMahan established the mark to beat with a time of 11.048 seconds around the 3/10 mile track. Lynton Jeffrey was second quick followed by Gregg Bakker, Terry McCarl, Mark Dobmeier, and Austin McCarl. Both Stewart and Heskin were done for the night following multiple hot lap sessions to pack the track in, due to motor woes.

Heat Races

Heat 1: 101 4 14 13 11x 83 51x 9M
Finish: 101 13 83 14 4 11x/ 51x 9M
Notes: This baby turned out to be a real treat for the extremely large crowd on a gorgeous southeast South Dakota evening. “Mr. Cool” Chuck McGillivray shot out to the early lead from his pole position while Dobmeier worked up to second by lap two on the very fast race track. McMahan would run down Hansen for third and achieved the pass on lap four of the eight lapper. Rosenboom also ran Hansen down for fourth as Dobmeier kept reeling in the leader. At the white flag, Dobmeier snuck under McGillivray into turn one, but slid up, giving Chucky enough room to take the lead back down the backstretch. He would hang on for a popular victory over Dobmeier.

Heat 2: 33 3 4K 17A 55 12 97
Finish: 33 17A 55 12 4K 97 3
Notes: Wolfgang and Peterson were side-by-side heading into turn three with the latter snatching the lead. Engine woes cost Peterson a heat race victory as he had to go pit-side for the rest of the night, handing the lead back to Wolfgang. The action was pretty spread out with the McCarl’s in second and third while Lynton was able to snag fourth from his brother Paul at the white flag. This heat was pretty lackluster in comparison to the one before it.

Notes: Peterson, Stewart, and Heskin all scratched due to engine woes. The initial start was called back due to A-Mac jumping it early. The next restart was a keeper as A-Mac slid to the cushion into turn one. Dobmeier slid him though with a perfect slider and led off the top of turn two. Lynton quickly moved up to second by the completion of the first lap as Bakker was able to get by the younger McCarl for third. Then A-Mac snapped-hook and spun off the turn two on lap three in a weird series of events. He kept it upright and off the inside retaining wall as well.

Dobmeier was still out in front of Lynton, Bakker, T-Mac, and McMahan when they went back to green. McMahan put on a huge slider into turn three that had T-Mac checking up to avoid contact. Another caution came on lap five for Brink who stopped on the frontstretch with his new team.

After a false start for a jumping Wolfgang, Bakker was all over Lynton for second with him getting it off the bottom of turn two on the restart. After the restart, mostly everybody was up top on the heavy and fast cushion, including the bottom feeding Lynton Jeffrey. Dobmeier had checked out from the field and working his way into the lightly-fielded lap traffic. As he worked his way into it, McMahan found a way past Lynton at the halfway point into turn one. With Bakker catching up substantial ground in traffic, Dobmeier made a great move in traffic splitting a couple of the lappers to open up a bigger lead. Bakker was able to hold ground but there wasn’t much lapped traffic left in front of him to close the gap. In the meantime with about five to go, McGillivray had found a line on the bottom and got around T-Mac for fifth.

Dobmeier dominated whatever traffic was left ahead of him for the easy $2,500 win, his third of the year, and his 42nd career 410 win at the track. Bakker was a respectable second, ahead of McMahan in third, Lynton in fourth, and McGillivray rounding out the top five. Dobmeier also led all 25 laps.

Finish: 13 11x 83 12 101 55 4 17A 4K 33/ 97 51x 14 (DNF) 9M 3 (DNS) 57 19

The Savage Joke of the Week (Sponsored by Your Company – I know your reading this AJ!)

Now it’s time for a nice little entertainment that isn’t from my mouth, and from one of the funniest guys this side of the Mississippi:
“Why did Mickey leave Minny? (why) She was fucking Goofy!”

This ‘N That

*Holy water on the track. Does anyone else think that was intentional or what? The VIP and others had planned on a late start time with the holiday the next day, but we weren’t expecting an hour later than the “7PM Sharp” advertised time. Anthem was sung at 7:55 with a couple more of 410 hot laps sessions following it. Anytime the “Home of the Professionals” moniker is stated over the PA, there are nothing but laughs around with jokes left and right.

*How about that amazing crowd? Who cares if half of them had never been to a dirt track before (and no, the monster truck show a few weeks ago does not count) to see the fireworks? Coincidence that there was a huge crowd, the track was overwatered, and everyone didn’t get out of there until 11PM? Not to mention the grader coming out for NO reason at all, unless it was to sell more beer – which they did. Rubin Economics 101, people!

*The rumor is that Huset’s has a make-up date (like promised before it rained) for the WoO show that was rained out last Sunday. Sounds like the WoO are pushing SLS down the Rubins’ throats in order to have a show the week after the Nationals. And who can blame them after the debauchery of the “flooding” event two springs ago? Hindsight is 20/20 but the “advertisement” of word-of-mouth would have brought the people for a make-up show the night after, on Monday of last week – on a gorgeous evening! Karma..?

*Disappointed in the lack-of a shout out last night. I’ve done nothing but promote the hell out of the track for the year, then comes the biggest crowd of the year, and no mention during intermission. Also, we are giving Bakker a mulligan (pun intended) for the heavy and not up-to-par surface. Big ups to the over $1000+ 50/50, it’s just too bad DeBerg wasn’t present to win two in a row!

*Someone ask Savage if he likes crack. Especially the crack he kept taking pictures of the whale two rows in front of us!

*I have been critical of Paul McMahan and the (lack of) success he has had happened on tour the last two years with KKR. But I give my props to him and the crew for driving overnight right after Dodge City and straight to Brandon. The crew looked like hell in the pits after arriving around 11am-ish, but they still set quick time and had a good run on the heavy track in the ‘A’. It can only go for the better if there is actually a make-up show this year.

*Now, as to his current teammate that is s-t-ruggling badly on tour, especially on tracks he has never seen. Its glad to know he was back to his normal, M-F day job being Kasey’s biatch in order to keep his ride. How was the Zach Brown Band concert, Cody? Who needs to race at a track you’ve never raced at before with a possible make-up date coming? Don’t say I’m not a fan of him, because I bought a shirt two years ago after setting quick time at the Nationals and being taken out in the heat, but it is obvious that he is over his head out on the road. Time to put someone who can win, and run upfront every night, and The Report is promoting Daryn Pittman for the ride.

*One more thing, it may sound like I am bitching my face off, but I just want perfection – how hard is it to keep the points for the entire year? They have been messed up since the Memorial Day night races when there was a ‘B’ Feature. If you need help in order to fix them, you can email the account. No charge this time either. Also, no bribing The Report this time either to keep it quiet, and for it to go away…

*Great fireworks show that lasted about 15 minutes or so. We ran out to the car to try to beat the thousands in attendance up the hill, and the show did not disappoint. A little slow to start her off, but she ended amazingly. Great job to the track, and the pyrotechnics that set up the bitchin’ show.

This ‘N That From Last Weekend

*First and foremost, I have to thank Tod and Big Game Treestands for the show at Jackson and helping me out big time. A FULL crowd at Jackson awaited us once we walked in as well. The heats weren’t very good on the heavy track, but the feature brought excitement once it hit lapped traffic. Great show, great promoting, great purse, and hopefully another one of these are in store next year, if not again this year.

*I also (along with Dude Fan) have to thank Paul and Jenn Johnson of Aggressive Hydraulics for the hook up in Princeton. It was a great time for all of us, even though the track dragged the show along. Thank you for the tickets, and the hospitality before the show. It is much appreciated.

*Dobmeier was bitchin-fast at Princeton after winning the dash and leading the first 27 laps of the 40 lapper up there. He tried losing it in traffic under green, but found a way around the lappers since he had such a lead. Unfortunately, he made the dumb mistake of going low on the first restart as Schatz was able to easily go by him at the flagstand. We had three guys pointing for him to start up on the high side along the backstretch fence, too, hoping for Dobmeier’s second career WoO win!

*Speaking of dash winners, are you ready for the Big J Stat of the Week? I have yet to hear the WoO PR or even Gibson bring up this stat, so if they are to say it in the future - I want credit, dammit! The dash winner is now 1 for 26 in winning that 'A' Feature on the year! Take the stat to the bank as it is true! And who says the pole-sitter wins all of the races with the double-file restarts now! There are more of these stats to come in the future.

*We picked up an associate sponsorship for any ‘B’ Feature that we cover for the rest of the year. It is going to be known as the “Great American Race ‘B’ Feature” instead of the Last Chance Showdown. Thanks to Lusk Racing for the donation and the beers in Princeton. It almost makes you kissing your future wife less embarrassing….

*Speaking of marriage, do we need to revisit the festivities following the rainout at 212 on Sunday? I smelt love in the air, seen love in people’s eyes, and seen one hell of bitch-fit all in a few hours. No names will be mentioned, but the plane tickets for Vegas on New Year’s Eve have been booked. I'm guessing 212 is wondering where their $600+ in business went this last weekend...

*Sorry about the late report, but with work and the Fourth of July rearing its drunken head in there, it is late. One report is better than no report. We’ll hopefully have something ready for next week with the 5K to win show at Huset’s. Not going to Jackson or Hartford due to bartending, and the lack of the National sanction, but hoping a few of them stick around for Sunday at Huset’s.

SORRY Enlarged J!!! Shout out last couple weeks went un-noticed by lack of attendence and non-reporting by the afformentioned VIP entourage. My DEEPEST appologies for lack of shout out...I was under the impression that you had gone to greener pastures to report since "The Report" was MIA for weeks.

I will try to do better next time...

I just want to thank you Hot Rod for being one of our loyal readers!

I have only missed writing one report this year (June 12th) since DeBerg Concrete has come on board. That was the night all hell broke loose, as many will recall. I was there on the midway, and had everything I needed to write it up. But when it came to Monday morning and writing it, that wasn't going to happen as that was the six year anniversary of losing my dad. I truly hope you can understand for missing one report on the year thus far. Again, thanks for showing such a big interest in my writings and reporting.

Also, we are starting negotiations for a sponsor for Savage's Joke of the Week. Should have that contract hammered out for Sunday's 5K to win show.

And, It sounds like some of the 360 guys are throwing in 410s for Sunday as well....

Big J:

In your report you implied that the grader races really weren't needed Sunday night. If you would have seen up close how high the curb on the track in turn two was, you'd probably change your opinion on that. If they would have left the curb where it was, I think there would have been a hell of a lot of carnage which, not only would be expensive for the racers would have really dragged the show out longer than it already went. Otherwise, dead eye dick on what went on........................
