After two weekends of long tows and no races I bet the fuel credit cards for the Outlaw teams are about maxed out! I saw on Haud's website they blew over $900 last week and made nothing. Gotta hurt and would make you think twice about chasing Outlaw points for sure. If I had a car I would probably do what Tim Shaffer's team has done, a strong regional schedule and Outlaw races when it made sense.

Lucas Wolfe was in Osage Beach, Missouri all week. I hope motels give some kind of frequent user discount.

It is what it is.... rain outs happen every year no matter who you follow... Usac, ASCS, WoO, All Stars........
Some of the WoO drivers went to Burlington 34 raceway such as Craig D, Madsen, T-mac, the Dude, B. Wimmer and more.

Three KKR cars towing from Charlotte to Oklahoma then back to Charlotte. Long weekend of I-40!
Next week to Haubstadt then back to Oklahoma then back to Eldora. That's a lot of miles at $4.00 a gallon for four races if it doesn't rain...I hope it stops raining soon in Ohio.

You pay your money and you take your chances. If you run the entire Outlaw circuit and just make the show you will make more money than anywhere else in sprint cars except maybe central Pa or Knoxville and run every week and do some winning.

For a helmet carrying driver, the WoO deal is a good one. But LOL at teams "making more money" following the Outlaws than anywhere else with fuel costs what they are. If the Outlaw tour was that lucrative, you wouldn't have seen so many of the teams not backed by NASCAR money go broke in recent years.

Knoxville better than North Central Ohio? Remove the nationals from the equation and consider the lesser costs of running tracks like Attica and Fremont in comparison to one large half mile and I think that you'll find that our guys do ok for themselves.

So the WoO has been around since 1978 and we're just now figuring out that they tow long distrances? Not sure I understand the point of the original post?

In the good ol' days the teams often had a sponsor who paid for the fuel. I remember when Brentwood Dodge/Chrysler used to pay for Mark Kinser's and they were located in Brentwood, California, go figure. Take It Easy...

The original poster was just saying what a few of us were thinking, "Lots of towing the racecar, and no racing has got to hurt". Not a new observation, just an observation. I wish more racing was done out here during the spring, as it seems to rain less. BUT, between West Texas and Southern California there just aren't enough tracks close together to make it worth the travel. Plus the fan base is lacking out here as well, lazy peeps would rather watch TV than get out and do something.
Oh yeah, Happy Easter.

Hate to say this but $900 is a cheap weekend for a 410 sprintcar and if you had taken more time to think about your post you would realize that they would've probably spen a whole lot more had they ran: $100 methanol, aprx. $800 tires, etc.

The post simply stated they burnt a lot of fuel and drove half-way across the country and made nothing. If a team wins $5000-$10,000 they can at least look to offset the expenditures. For the car owners it is not about a profit, if it was they would invest in something that they stood a much better chance at making (and keeping) a profit.
Believe me, the original poster knows what he is talking about when it comes to money!

Just making a point Dryslick, I'm well aware how long the Outlaws have been around, since you don't understand the post I'll try to dumb it down for ya next time, I thought that post was really pretty simple. I'm also aware ILracer that $900 is a cheap weekend for a 410, in fact if there was a little bit of sanity in racing I'd have a racecar myself. Having a single day event where they were scheduled and also if I'm not mistaken a California weekend with a single day event, that's a lot of expense for one opportunity to put the car on the track.
Thanks Mr Mac, yes I've had some success and would love to put a car together and see my own racecar on the track, however until they get some control over the costs, not gonna happen. For Ohio racers, Attica and Fremont are doing a good deal with $3,000 to win weekly plus some All-Star and Outlaw shows thrown in. All I'm saying is it's just tough to justify the expense of the Outlaw tour, and it's a shame as I could see in a couple of years I'd be seriously thinking about taking the plunge once my youngest is through school.

Increases are passed on to the fans, one example is Jac's shirts are now $25 plus $5 shipping and kids shirts are $18...I love to buy shirts at the track and used to buy as many as I could to help support the drivers, but if they start charging $25 im done. I cringed when prices went from 15 to 20, but now 25 is terrible

I agree, $25 is getting way too expensive, $20 is my limit as well. I was always shocked every time I went to a Sprint Cup race( don't go anymore) at Dover or Pocono and saw driver's T shirts selling for $25 or $30 and fans buying them up like they were $5.

yes agreed thats its very understandable for a car owner to be upset that they would spend $900 for nothing. point taken. not tryin to harsh just pointing out that $900 is pocket change in the racing scene today. SADLY..... something has to be done it should not cost someone upwards of $1,000,000 to race with the outlaws for a year...

Completely agree ILracer, the decimation of 410 fields is really disturbing, and the idea of a car owner coming close to breaking even is a joke. It makes one wonder what has to happen to the sport before sanity enters the picture. Honestly, if I could put a competitive car on the track and have a chance to win and only have to take $100,000 out of my business annually I could justify it, but I'm to much of a business man to waste the money chasing the Outlaws. Seriously, the days car owners willing to burn that kind of cash are going away. I guess if I wait for the sport to become more affordable, I'll never get in, but the problem with that is there are more and more people getting out, what's the solution?

completely agree and i believe that 305's in the midwest are a decent answer but also have their own problems: 1. the occasional fan doesn't go watch 305's they want to see the "big cars" when on a 3/8 or 1/4 mile 305's put on a good show and are very affordable. 2. It is difficult to get sponsorships because businesses want to see their name on more "popular" cars such as 410's. Sadly there is no easy solution...
Don't get me wrong im not disrespecting 305's in any way as i'd love to have my own. I just don't think they get the same respect (which they deserve as they are sprintcars) even though they have more HP than sprintcars from the past had.

I seldom buy t-shirts anymore. Pretty much my fave shirt to wear to the races is my black Haud 25th anniversary shirt from 12 years ago! I wear the hell out of that thing and I'm skinny enough to still wear it .. I once paid $25 for a shirt back in '03. It was a Steve Kinser green and purple tie-dyed shirt of the Incredible Hulk car. I liked it so much I bought it on the spot.
Instead of spending $25 or more on a new shirt look at some of the shirts that are a year or two old that the drivers would have marked down.

AHHHH poor haud crying about the cost of something else. First it was the price of chassis now on fuel.
I say screw em if there pissing money away using them big haulers with fancy chrome and wrapped decals on em. Old schoolers did it with a pick up and open trailer.
I don't aim to please.
I aim to hit the target.
